1 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.
1 In that day, Jesus, departing from the house, sat down beside the sea.
1 THAT same day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.
2 And great crowds were gathered together to Him, so that He got into the boat and sat; and the crowd stood on the shore.
2 And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach.
2 And many people gathered around him, so that he had to go up and sit in a boat, and all the people stood on the seashore.
3 And He spoke to them many things in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow.
4 And as he sowed, some seed fell alongside the road; and the birds came and devoured them.
4 And while he was sowing, some fell beside the road, and the birds of the air came and ate it.
4 And when he had sown, some seed fell on the roadside, and the fowls came and ate it.
5 But others fell on the stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.
5 Other fell upon the rock, where there was not sufficient soil; and it sprang up earlier because the ground was not deep enough;
6 But when the sun rose, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.
6 and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 But others fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them out.
7 And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them
7 Still others fell among thorns, and the thorns increased and suffocated them.
8 But others fell on good ground and it was yielding fruit: some a hundred[fold], some sixty, some thirty.
8 Yet some others fell upon good soil, and they produced fruit: some one hundred fold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold.
9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
9 He that hath ears, let him hear.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And the disciples approached and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"
10 Then his disciples drew near to him and said, Why do you speak to them in parables?
11 He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.
12 For to him who has, shall be given and it shall increase to him; but to him who has not, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.
13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
13 This is the reason I speak to them in figures, because they see and yet cannot perceive; and they hear and yet do not listen, nor do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive.
14 And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive
14 And so, in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said, ‘Hearing, you shall hear, but not understand; and seeing, you shall see, but not perceive.
15 For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.'
15 For this people`s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.
16 "But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears, because they hear.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.
17 For assuredly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous [men] desired to see what you see, and they did not see, and to hear what you hear, and they did not hear."
17 For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.
17 Amen I say to you, certainly, that many of the prophets and the just desired to see what you see, and yet they did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and yet they did not hear it.
18 "Therefore hear the parable of the sower
18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower.
18 Now you listen to the parable of the seed.
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand, then the evil [one] comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the [seed] being sown beside the road.
19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.
19 With anyone who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, evil comes and carries away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received the seed by the side of the road.
20 But the [seed] sown on stony ground, is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;
21 yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. For when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.
21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.
21 But it has no root in him, except for a while; and when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately stumbles.
22 But the [seed] sown in the thorns is he who hears the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches chokes out the word, and it becomes fruitless.
22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
23 But the [seed] sown on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundred[fold], some sixty, some thirty."
23 Yet truly, whoever has received the seed into good soil, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, and so he bears fruit, and he produces: some a hundred fold, and another sixty fold, and another thirty fold.”
24 Another parable He set before them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field.
24 He related another parable to them, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25 But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.
25 And when the men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.
26 But when the stalk had sprouted and produced fruit, then the tares also appeared.
26 And when the plants had grown, and had produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.
27 So the servants of the master of the house approached and said to him, 'Sir, [was it ]not good seed you sowed in your field? From where then does it have tares?'
27 And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?
27 So the servants of the landowner came and said to him, Our lord, behold, did you not sow good seed in your field; whence did the tares come into it?
28 "He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' So the servants said to him, 'Do you wish then that we should go and gather them up?'
29 "But he said, 'No, lest gathering up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.
29 And he said: ‘No, lest perhaps in gathering the weeds, you might also root out the wheat together with it.
29 But he said to them, It might happen that while you were picking out the tares, you might uproot with them also the wheat.
30 Leave both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares, and bind them into bundles to burn them, but gather together the wheat into my barn."' "
30 Permit both to grow until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest, I will say to the reapers: Gather first the weeds, and bind them into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather into my storehouse.’ ”
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
31 Another parable He set before them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field,
31 He related another parable to them, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.
32 which indeed is smaller [than] all the seeds; but whenever it is grown, it is greater [than] the garden vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches."
32 It is, indeed, the least of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is greater than all the plants, and it becomes a tree, so much so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches.”
32 It is the smallest of all seeds; but when it is grown, it is larger than all of the herbs; and it becomes a tree, so that the fowls of the sky come and nest in its branches.
33 Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and mixed in with three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened."
33 He told them another parable. The kingdom of heaven is like the leaven, which a woman took and buried in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.
34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He did not speak to them,
34 All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them
35 so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world."
35 in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying: “I will open my mouth in parables. I will proclaim what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”
35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
36 Then having dismissed the crowds, Jesus went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."
36 Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
36 Then Jesus left the multitudes and came into the house; and his disciples came up to him, and said, Explain to us the parable of the tares and the field.
37 He answered and said to them: "He that sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
37 And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
37 Responding, he said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man.
38 And the field is the world, and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the evil [one].
38 Now the field is the world. And the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom. But the weeds are the sons of wickedness.
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom; but the tares are the sons of evil.
39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
39 and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels.
39 So the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And truly, the harvest is the consummation of the age; while the reapers are the Angels.
40 Therefore just as the tares are gathered and burned with fire, thus it will be at the end of this age.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.
41 The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who work iniquity,
42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
42 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
44 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure having been hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it, he went and sold everything he had, and bought that field."
44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,
46 who, when he found one very precious pearl, went and sold everything he had and bought it."
46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet having been cast into the sea, and gathering some of every kind,
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea, which gathers together all kinds of fish.
48 which, when it was filled, they pulled up on the shore; and sitting down, they collected the good into vessels, but the rotten they threw out.
48 When it was filled, they drew it to the shore, and sat down and sorted them; the good ones they put into bags, and the bad they threw away.
49 Thus it shall be at the end of the age: the angels shall go forth and separate the evil from among the righteous,
49 So shall it be at the consummation of the age. The Angels shall go forth and separate the bad from the midst of the just.
49 So will it be at the end of the world; the angels will go out and separate the bad from among the righteous,
50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
51 Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?"They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."
51 Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea.
52 Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe having become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old [things]."
52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
52 He said to them, “Therefore, every scribe well-taught about the kingdom of heaven, is like a man, the father of a family, who offers from his storehouse both the new and the old.”
53 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, He went away from there.
53 And it happened that, when Jesus had completed these parables, he went away from there.
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
54 And coming into His hometown, He began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and the powerful works?
55 Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Jude?
55 Is he not the carpenterÆs son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joses and Simon and Judah?
56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? From where then did this Man get all these things?"
56 Are not all his sisters with us? Where did he get all these things?
57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and in his [own ]house."
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.
14:1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report [about] Jesus,
1 At that season Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
1 In that time, Herod the Tetrarch heard the news about Jesus.
14:2 and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."
2 And he said to his servants: “This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead, and that is why miracles are at work in him.”
2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
14:3 For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.
14:4 For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
14:5 Though desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
5 So Herod wanted to kill him, but he was afraid of the people, because they accepted him as a prophet.
14:6 Now when Herod's birthday was being celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and she pleased Herod.
6 But when Herod`s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
14:7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
7 And so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask of him.
7 He therefore swore to her with oaths, that he would give her anything that she asked.
14:8 So she, being urged on by her mother, said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist."
8 And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.
14:9 And the king was grieved, but because of the oaths, and because of those who reclined [to eat] with him, he commanded it to be given.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
14:10 And having sent, he beheaded John in the prison.
14:11 And his head was brought on a platter and it was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12 Then his disciples came forward and took the body and buried it, and coming, they reported it to Jesus.
12 And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.
14:13 When Jesus heard it, He withdrew from there in a boat for a deserted place privately. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
13 Now when Jesus heard [it], he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard [thereof,] they followed him on foot from the cities.
14:14 And coming out, Jesus saw a large crowd, and He was moved with compassion towards them, and healed their sick.
14:15 Now when evening came, His disciples came to Him, saying, "The place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds, that they may go to the villages and buy food for themselves."
15 And when evening had arrived, his disciples approached him, saying: “This is a deserted place, and the hour has now passed. Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the towns, they may buy food for themselves.”
15 When it was evening, his disciples came to him, and they said to him, This is a lonely place, and it is getting late; dismiss the people so that the men may go to the villages and buy food for themselves.
14:16 But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them [food] to eat."
16 But he said to them, It is not necessary for them to go; you give them something to eat.
16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
14:17 And they said to Him, "We do not have [anything ]here except five loaves of bread and two fish."
17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
17 They answered him, “We have nothing here, except five loaves and two fish.”
14:18 But He said, "Bring them here to Me."
18 And he said, Bring them hither to me.
18 He said to them, “Bring them here to me.”
14:19 And commanding the crowds to recline on the grass, taking the five loaves of bread and the two fish, looking up to heaven, He blessed, and breaking [them,] He[ ] gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples [gave] to the crowds.
19 And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
19 And he ordered the people to sit down on the ground, and he took the five loaves of bread and the two fish, and he looked up to heaven and he blessed them, and he broke them, and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples placed them before the people.
14:20 So they all ate and were satisfied, and they took up what they had left of the fragments, twelve baskets full.
20 And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
14:21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
21 And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
21 And the men who ate were five thousand, not counting the women and children.
14:22 And immediately Jesus compelled the disciples to get into the boat, and to go ahead of Him to the other side, until He could dismiss the crowds.
22 And straightway he constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away.
22 And Jesus promptly compelled his disciples to climb into the boat, and to precede him in crossing the sea, while he dismissed the crowds.
14:23 And having dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain privately to pray. And when evening had come, He was there alone.
23 And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.
23 And when he had dismissed the people, he went up to the mountain alone to pray; and when darkness fell he was still there alone.
14:24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, being harassed by the waves, for the wind was against [them].
24 But in the midst of the sea, the boat was being tossed about by the waves. For the wind was against them.
14:25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea.
14:26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!"And they cried out for fear.
26 And seeing him walking upon the sea, they were disturbed, saying: “It must be an apparition.” And they cried out, because of fear.
26 And his disciples saw him walking on the water, and they were scared, and they said, It is a false vision; and they cried out because of their fear.
14:27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Have courage! [It is] I AM; do not fear."
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
27 And immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying: “Have faith. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
14:28 But Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters."
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto the upon the waters.
28 Then Peter responded by saying, “Lord, if it is you, order me come to you over the waters.”
14:29 So He said, "Come."And stepping down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to go toward Jesus.
29 And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to come to Jesus.
29 Jesus said to him, Come. So Peter went down from the boat, and walked on the water, to come to Jesus.
14:30 But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"
30 Yet truly, seeing that the wind was strong, he was afraid. And as he began to sink, he cried out, saying: “Lord, save me.”
14:31 And immediately, Jesus reaching out His hand, laid hold of him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
31 And our Lord immediately stretched out his hand and grasped him; and he said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
14:32 And when they had gotten into the boat, the wind ceased.
14:33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
33 And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
33 And they who were in the boat came and worshipped him; and they said, Truly you are the Son of God.
14:34 And having crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
34 And when they had crossed over, they came to the land, unto Gennesaret.
34 And they rowed and came to the land of Gennesaret.
14:35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all those who were ill,
35 And the men of that country recognized him, and they sent word to all the villages around them; so they brought to him all who were seriously sick.
14:36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched [Him] were completely healed.
36 and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.
15:1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem approached Jesus, saying,
1 THEN Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came up to Jesus, saying,
15:2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread."
15:3 He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God on account of your tradition?
3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
15:4 For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, with death let him die.'
4 For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.
4 ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Whoever will have cursed father or mother shall die a death.’
15:5 But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "[It is] a gift [to God], whatever profit you might have received from me"-
5 But you say, Whoever says to a father or to a mother, Whatever you may be benefited from me is Corban (my offering), he need not honor his father or his mother.
15:6 then by no means should he honor his father or mother.' Thus you have nullified the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition.
6 he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition.
6 So you have rendered useless the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
15:7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying,
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
7 O you hypocrites, the prophet Isaiah well prophesied concerning you and said,
15:8 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and they honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me.
8 This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
15:9 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' "
9 But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men.
15:10 And having summoned the crowd, He said to them, "Hear and understand
10 Then he called the people and said to them, Listen and understand.
10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand
15:11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."
11 Not that which entereth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which proceedeth out of the mouth, this defileth the man.
11 A man is not defiled by what enters into the mouth, but by what proceeds from the mouth. This is what defiles a man.”
15:12 Then His disciples approached and said to Him, "You know that when the Pharisees heard this message they were offended?"
15:13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
13 But in response he said: “Every plant which has not been planted by my heavenly Father shall be uprooted.
15:14 Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guides the blind, both will fall into a ditch."
14 Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.
15:15 Then Peter answered and said to Him, "Explain to us this parable."
15 And responding, Peter said to him, “Explain this parable to us.”
15 And Simon Peter answered and said to him, My Lord, explain this parable to us.
15:16 So Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding?
16 And he said, Are ye also even yet without understanding?
16 But he said: “Are you, even now, without understanding?
15:17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach, and is cast out into a latrine?
17 Perceive ye not, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
17 Do you not know that what enters into the mouth goes into the stomach, and thence, through the intestines, is cast out?
15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
18 But what proceeds from the mouth, goes forth from the heart, and those are the things that defile a man.
18 But what comes out of the mouth comes out from the heart; and that is what defiles man.
15:19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.
15:20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."
20 It is these that defile man; but if a man should eat when his hands are unwashed, he will not be defiled.
15:21 And going out from there, Jesus withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.
21 And Jesus went out thence, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon.
15:22 And behold, a Canaanite woman coming forth from that region cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."
22 And behold, a woman of Canaan, going out from those parts, cried out, saying to him: “Take pity on me, Lord, Son of David. My daughter is badly afflicted by a demon.”
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
15:23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples approached and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us."
23 He did not say a word to her. And his disciples, drawing near, petitioned him, saying: “Dismiss her, for she is crying out after us.”
23 But he did not answer her. And his disciples came up to him and urged him, saying, Dismiss her, for she keeps crying aloud after us.
15:24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
24 And responding, he said, “I was not sent except to the sheep who have fallen away from the house of Israel.”
24 And he answered and said to them, I am not sent, except to the sheep which went astray from the house of Israel.
15:25 Then she came and worshipped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!"
25 But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
15:26 But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and to throw [it] to the little dogs."
26 And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children`s bread and cast it to the dogs.
26 Jesus said to her, It is not right to take the childrenÆs bread and throw it to the dogs.
15:27 But she said, "Yes, Lord, for even the little dogs eat from the crumbs falling from their masters' table."
27 But she said Yes, my Lord, even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the masterÆs tray, and they live.
15:28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire."And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
15:29 And moving on from there, Jesus came alongside the Sea of Galilee, and going up into a mountain, He sat down there.
29 And Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.
29 And when Jesus had passed from there, he arrived beside the sea of Galilee. And ascending onto a mountain, he sat down there.
15:30 And great crowds came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they put them down at Jesus' feet, and He healed them.
30 And great multitudes came to him, having with them the mute, the blind, the lame, the disabled, and many others. And they cast them down at his feet, and he cured them,
30 And a great many people came to him, who had with them the lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at the feet of Jesus, and he healed them.
15:31 So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
15:32 Now Jesus, having summoned His disciples, He said, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been remaining with Me three days, and they do not have anything to eat. And I do not desire to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."
32 Jesus then called his disciples and said to them, I have compassion for this people, for they have remained with me three days, and they have nothing to eat; and if I dismiss them fasting, they might faint on the way; but this I do not wish to do.
15:33 Then His disciples said to Him, "Where could we get so many loaves of bread in [this] deserted place, so as to satisfy so great a crowd?"
33 And the disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?
33 His disciples said to him, Where can we get bread in this desolate place to feed all this people?
15:34 Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?"And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."
34 And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?” But they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”
15:35 So He commanded the crowds to recline on the ground.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;
35 And he instructed the crowds to recline upon the ground.
15:36 And He took the seven loaves and the fish, having given thanks, He broke [them], and gave [them] to His disciples; and the disciples [gave] to the crowd.
36 And taking the seven loaves and the fish, and giving thanks, he broke and gave to his disciples, and the disciples gave to the people.
36 Then he took the seven loaves of bread and the fish, and gave thanks, and he broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
15:37 So they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what they had left of the fragments, seven hampers full.
37 And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, seven baskets full.
37 And all of them did eat and were satisfied; and they took up of the fragments that were left over, seven full baskets.
15:38 Now those who ate were four thousand men, apart from women and children.
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children.
38 But those who ate were four thousand men, plus children and women.
15:39 And having dismissed the crowds, He went up into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala.
39 And he sent away the multitudes, and entered into the boat, and came into the borders of Magadan.
39 And when he had dismissed the people, he went up to the boat and came to the border of Magadan.
16:1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing [Him], they asked Him to show them a sign out of heaven.
1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
16:2 He answered and said to them, "When evening comes you say, 'Fine weather, for the sky is red'.
2 But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, [It will be] fair weather: for the heaven is red.
2 But he responded by saying to them: “When evening arrives, you say, ‘It will be calm, for the sky is red,’
16:3 And in the morning, 'Today [will be ]stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' Hypocrites! Indeed you know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
3 And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to-day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot [discern] the signs of the times.
3 and in the morning, ‘Today there will be a storm, for the sky is red and gloomy.’ So then, you know how to judge the appearance of the sky, but you are unable to know the signs of the times?
16:4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah."And leaving them behind He went away.
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
16:5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they forgot to take bread.
5 When his disciples came to the crossing place, they had forgotten to take bread with them.
16:6 Then Jesus said to them, "Look out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."
6 And Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
16:7 But they were reasoning among themselves, saying, "We did not take bread."
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, We took no bread.
7 And they were reasoning among themselves and saying, It is because we have not brought bread.
16:8 But Jesus, knowing [about it], said to them, "O you of little faith, why are you reasoning among yourselves, because you did not take bread?
8 And Jesus perceiving it said, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have no bread?
8 Then Jesus, knowing this, said: “Why do you consider within yourselves, O little in faith, that it is because you have no bread?
16:9 Do you not yet perceive, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took [up]?
9 Do you not yet understand, nor remember, the five loaves among the five thousand men, and how many containers you took up?
9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
16:10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many hampers you took [up]?
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Or the seven loaves among the four thousand men, and how many baskets you took up?
16:11 How is it you do not perceive that I did not speak to you about bread, but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?"
11 Why do you not understand that it was not because of bread that I said to you: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees?”
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
16:12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
16:13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He was questioning His disciples, saying, "Who do men pronounce Me, the Son of Man, to be?"
13 Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is?
16:14 So they said, "Some [say] John the Baptist, but others [say] Elijah, and [yet ]others [say ]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
14 And they said, Some [say] John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
14 They said, There are some who say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets
16:15 He said to them, "But who do you pronounce Me to be?"
15 He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am?
15 Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
16 Simon Peter responded by saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
16:17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal [this] to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.
17 And in response, Jesus said to him: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father, who is in heaven.
16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I shall build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
18 I tell you also that you are a stone, and upon this stone I will build my church; and the doors of Sheol shall not shut in on it.
16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on the earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on the earth will have been loosed in heaven."
19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth shall be released in heaven.
16:20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
20 Then charged he the disciples that they should tell no man that he was the Christ.
16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go off to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised the third day.
16:22 And taking Him aside, Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, "God be gracious to You, Lord! This shall by no means happen to You!"
22 And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall never be unto thee.
22 So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, and he said, Far be it from you, my Lord, that this should happen to you.
16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block unto Me, because you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."
23 And turning away, Jesus said to Peter: “Get behind me, Satan; you are an obstacle to me. For you are not behaving according to what is of God, but according to what is of men.”
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
16:25 For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life on account of Me shall find it.
25 For whosoever would save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.
16:26 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give [as] an exchange for his soul?
16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will render to each according to his works.
16:28 Assuredly I say to you, there are some standing here who will by no means taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
17:1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain in private;
1 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart
1 And after six days, Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John, and he led them onto a lofty mountain separately.
17:2 and He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
2 And Jesus was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes turned white like light.
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
17:3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
3 And there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, as they were talking with him.
17:4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You desire, let us make here three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
4 And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, I will make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice [came] out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
5 And while he was still speaking, behold, a shining cloud overshadowed them. And behold, there was a voice from the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
5 And while he was speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, I am pleased with him; hear him.
17:6 And when the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and they were greatly afraid.
6 And the disciples, hearing this, fell prone on their face, and they were very afraid.
6 When the disciples heard it, they threw themselves on their faces, and they were greatly frightened.
17:7 But Jesus approached and touched them and said, "Arise, and do not be afraid."
7 And Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
7 And Jesus drew near and touched them. And he said to them, “Rise up and do not be afraid.”
17:8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus only.
8 And they raised up their eyes, and they saw no man, except Jesus alone.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
17:9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead."
9 And as they were going down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, and said to them, Do not speak of this vision in the presence of anyone, until the Son of man rises from the dead.
17:10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
10 And his disciples questioned him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to arrive first?”
17:11 Jesus answered and said to them, "Elijah truly does come first, and shall restore all things.
11 And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things
11 But in response, he said to them: “Elijah, indeed, shall arrive and restore all things.
17:12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they desired. Thus also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them."
12 but I say into you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.
17:13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
17:14 And when they came to the crowd, a man approached Him, kneeling to Him, and saying,
14 And when he had arrived at the multitude, a man approached him, falling to his knees before him, saying: “Lord, take pity on my son, for he is an epileptic, and he suffers harm. For he frequently falls into fire, and often also into water.
17:15 "Lord, have pity on my son, for he is moonstruck and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is epileptic, and suffereth grievously; for oft-times he falleth into the fire, and off-times into the water.
15 My Lord, have mercy on me; my son is an epileptic and has become worse; he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
17:16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they were not able to heal him."
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17:17 Then Jesus answered and said, "O unfaithful and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me."
17 Jesus answered and said, O faithless and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? and how long shall I preach to you? bring him here to me.
17:18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out from him; and the boy was healed from that very hour.
17:19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"
17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Be moved from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible for you.
20 And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
20 Jesus said to them: “Because of your unbelief. Amen I say to you, certainly, if you will have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move. And nothing will be impossible for you.
17:21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."
21 [But this kind goeth not out save by prayer and fasting.]
21 Nevertheless this kind does not come out, except by fasting and prayer.
17:22 And while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,
22 And when they were conversing together in Galilee, Jesus said to them: “The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
17:23 and they will kill Him, and on the third day He shall be raised."And they were exceedingly sorrowful.
17:24 When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?"
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, Doth not your teacher pay the half-shekel?
24 And when they came to Capernaum, those who collect two coins of silver as headtax came to Peter and said to him, Would not your master give his two coins?
17:25 He said, "Yes."And when he entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?"
17:26 Peter said to Him, "From strangers."Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free.
26 And when he said, From strangers, Jesus said unto him, Therefore the sons are free.
17:27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook, and take the first fish coming up. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a coin; taking that, give it to them for Me and you."
27 But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
27 But so that we may not become an obstacle to them: go to the sea, and cast in a hook, and take the first fish that is brought up, and when you have opened its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take it and give it to them, for me and for you.”
18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is [the ]greater in the kingdom of heaven?"
1 In that hour, the disciples drew near to Jesus, saying, “Whom do you consider to be greater in the kingdom of heaven?”
1 AT that very hour the disciples came up to Jesus and said, Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
18:2 Then Jesus called a little child, and set him in their midst,
2 And he called to him a little child, and set him in the midst of them,
2 So Jesus called a little boy, and made him to stand up in the midst of them,
18:3 and said, "Assuredly I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you shall by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
3 and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
3 And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
18:4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whoever therefore will humble himself like this little boy, shall be great in the kingdom of heaven.
18:5 And whoever receives one such little child in My name, receives Me.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me
5 And he who will welcome one like this little boy, in my name, welcomes me.
18:6 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him that a huge millstone be hanged on his neck, and he be drowned in the depth of the sea.
6 But whoso shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it is profitable for him that a great millstone should be hanged about his neck, and [that] he should be sunk in the depth of the sea.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
18:7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man through whom the offense comes!
7 Woe unto the world because of occasions of stumbling! for it must needs be that the occasions come; but woe to that man through whom the occasion cometh!
7 Woe to a world that leads people astray! Although it is necessary for temptations to arise, nevertheless: Woe to that man through whom temptation arises!
18:8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut them off and cast [them] from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, than having two hands or two feet, to be thrown into the eternal fire.
8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
18:9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than having two eyes, to be thrown into the fiery hell.
9 And if thine eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire.
9 And if your eye offends you, remove it and throw it away from you; it is better for you to go through life with one eye, rather than having two eyes and fall into the gehenna of fire.
18:10 "See that you do not despise one of these little [ones], for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
10 See to it that you do not despise even one of these little ones. For I say to you, that their Angels in heaven continually look upon the face of my Father, who is in heaven.
18:11 For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost.
18:12 What do you think? If a certain man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and go and search for the [one ]gone astray?
12 How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray?
12 How does it seem to you? If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go out to seek what has gone astray?
18:13 And if he happens to find it, assuredly I say to you that he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which did not go astray.
13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
18:14 Thus it is not the will before your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
14 Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.
14 Even so, your Father in heaven does not want one of these little ones to be lost.
18:15 "And if your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have won your brother.
15 And if thy brother sin against thee, go, show him his fault between thee and him alone: if he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
18:16 But if he does not hear, take along with you one or two more, so that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.'
16 But if he will not listen you, invite with you one or two more, so that every word may stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.
18:17 But if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the assembly. But if he refuses even to hear the assembly, let him be to you as a heathen and a tax collector.
17 And if he refuse to hear them, tell it unto the church: and if he refuse to hear the church also, let him be unto thee as the Gentile and the publican.
17 And if he will not listen to them, tell the Church. But if he will not listen to the Church, let him be to you like the pagan and the tax collector.
18:18 Assuredly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
18:19 Again, assuredly I say to you that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
19 Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven.
19 Again I say to you, that if two of those among you have agreed on earth, about anything whatsoever that they have requested, it shall be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.
18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
18:21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
21 Then Peter, drawing near to him, said: “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Even seven times?”
18:22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy- seven [times.]
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven.
18:23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
18:24 And when he began to settle up, one debtor was brought to him [owing] ten thousand talents.
18:25 But since he had nothing with which to repay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and everything that he had, and to be repaid.
25 But forasmuch as he had not [wherewith] to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
18:26 Therefore falling down before him, the servant said, 'Master, have patience with me, and I will repay everything to you.'
26 The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
26 But that servant, falling prostrate, begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
18:27 "And having compassion, the master of that servant released him, and forgave him the loan.
27 And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
27 Then the master of that servant had pity, so he released him, and cancelled his debt.
18:28 But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. And taking hold of him, he was choking him, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'
28 But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings: and he laid hold on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest.
18:29 "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and kept begging him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.'
29 So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee.
29 And his fellow servant, falling prostrate, petitioned him, saying: ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
18:30 "But he was not willing, but going off, he cast him into prison till he should pay back what was owed.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due.
30 But he was not willing. Instead, he went out and had him sent to prison, until he would repay the debt.
18:31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and they came and narrated to their master all that had taken place.
31 Now his fellow servants, seeing what was done, were greatly saddened, and they went and reported to their lord all that was done.
18:32 Then summoning him, his master said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.
32 Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me
32 Then his master called him and said to him, O wicked servant, I cancelled all your debt because you begged me.
18:33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, as I also had compassion on you?'
33 shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee?
33 Was it not right for you to have mercy on your fellow-servant, just as I had mercy on you?
18:34 "And being angered, his master handed him over to the tormentors until he should pay all that was owed to him.
34 And his lord, being angry, handed him over to the torturers, until he repaid the entire debt.
34 So his master was angry, and delivered him to the scourgers, until he should pay everything he owed him.
18:35 Thus also My heavenly Father will do to you, if you do not forgive each [one] his brother their trespasses, from your hearts."
35 So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.
35 So will my Father in heaven do to you, if you do not forgive each man his brotherÆs fault from your heart.
19:1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, that He with from Galilee and went to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.
1 WHEN Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came to the border of Judaea, at the crossing of the Jordan.
19:2 And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.
2 And a great many people followed him, and he healed them there.
19:3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"
3 And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful [for a man] to put away his wife for every cause?
3 And the Pharisees approached him, testing him, and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to separate from his wife, no matter what the cause?”
19:4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'
4 And he said to them in response, “Have you not read that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female?” And he said
4 But he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he who made from the beginning, made them male and female?
19:5 and He said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
5 “For this reason, a man shall separate from father and mother, and he shall cling to his wife, and these two shall become one flesh.
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
19:6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
6 Henceforth they are not two, but one body; therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.
19:7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?"
19:8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been thus.
8 He saith unto them, Moses for your hardness of heart suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it hath not been so.
19:9 And I say to you, that whoever shall put away his wife, except [it be ]for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marrying a divorcee commits adultery."
19:10 His disciples said to Him, "If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry."
19:11 But He said to them, "All cannot accept this saying, but [it is for those] to whom it has been given
11 And he said to them: “Not everyone is able to grasp this word, but only those to whom it has been given.
11 He said to them, This saying does not apply to every man, but to whom it is needed.
19:12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to accept [this], let him accept [it]."
12 For there are chaste persons who were born so from their mother’s womb, and there are chaste persons who have been made so by men, and there are chaste persons who have made themselves chaste for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever is able to grasp this, let him grasp it.”
19:13 Then little children were brought to Him, that He might put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked them.
13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should lay his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
13 Then they brought little boys to him, that he may lay his hand on them and pray; and his disciples rebuked them.
19:14 But Jesus said, "Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
14 Yet truly, Jesus said to them: “Allow the little children to come to me, and do not choose to prohibit them. For the kingdom of heaven is among such as these.”
14 But Jesus said to them, Allow the little boys to come to me, and do not stop them; for the kingdom of heaven is for such as these.
19:15 And having put His hands on them, He departed from there.
15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
15 And when he had imposed his hands upon them, he went away from there.
19:16 And behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Teacher, what good [thing] shall I do that I may have eternal life?"
16 Then a man came up and said to him, O good Teacher, what is the best that I should do to have life eternal?
19:17 So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except One, [that is], God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
17 And he said unto him, Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments.
19:18 He said to Him, "Which [ones]?"Jesus said, "'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,'
18 He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19:19 ' Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "
19 Honor thy father and mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
19 Honor your father and your mother; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.
19:20 The young man said to Him, "All these have I kept from my youth. What do I still lack?"
19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you desire to be perfect, go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
19:22 But when the young man heard the word, he went away grieved, for he had many possessions.
22 And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
22 When the young man heard this word, he went away sad, for he had great possessions.
19:23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Assuredly I say to you, that with difficulty a rich [man] shall enter the kingdom of heaven.
23 And Jesus said unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
19:24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than [for] a rich [man] to enter the kingdom of God."
24 Again I say to you, It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
19:25 And when His disciples heard, they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then is able to be saved?"
25 And upon hearing this, the disciples wondered greatly, saying: “Then who will be able to be saved?”
25 When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved?
19:26 And looking on [them], Jesus said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
26 But Jesus, gazing at them, said to them: “With men, this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, For men this is impossible, but for God everything is possible.
19:27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You. What then shall we have?"
27 Then Peter responded by saying to him: “Behold, we have left behind all things, and we have followed you. So then, what will be for us?”
19:28 So Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the Regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life.
29 And anyone who has left behind home, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for the sake of my name, shall receive one hundred times more, and shall possess eternal life.
19:30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
30 But many shall be last [that are] first; and first [that are] last.
30 But many of those who are first shall be last, and the last shall be first.”
20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a certain landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
1 “The kingdom of heaven is like the father of a family who went out in early morning to lead workers into his vineyard.
20:2 And having agreed with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
2 He bargained with the laborers for a penny a day, and sent them to his vineyard.
20:3 And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace.
3 And he went out at the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the market place.
20:4 And said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever may be right I will give you.' So they went.
4 and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
4 And he said to them, ‘You may go into my vineyard, too, and what I will give you will be just.’
20:5 Again going out about the sixth and the ninth hour, he did likewise.
5 So they went forth. But again, he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and he acted similarly.
5 And he went out again at the sixth and at the ninth hour, and did the same.
20:6 And about the eleventh hour, going out he found others standing idle, and said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?'
6 Yet truly, about the eleventh hour, he went out and found others standing, and he said to them, ‘Why have you stood here idle all day?’
20:7 "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you shall receive.'
7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard.
20:8 "So when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.'
8 And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
8 When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, Call the laborers and pay them their wages; and begin from the last ones to the first.
20:9 "And when those came [who were hired] about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.
9 And so, when those who had arrived about the eleventh hour came forward, each received a single denarius.
9 When those of the eleventh hour came, they each received a penny.
20:10 But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they also received each a denarius.
10 Then when the first ones also came forward, they considered that they would receive more. But they, too, received one denarius.
20:11 And when they had received it, they began grumbling against the landowner,
11 And upon receiving it, they murmured against the father of the family,
20:12 saying, 'These last [men] have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.'
20:13 "But he answered one of them and said, 'Friend, I am not wronging you. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
13 He answered and said to one of them, My friend, I am not doing you an injustice; did you not bargain with me for a penny?
20:14 Take what is yours and go. But I want to give to this last [man] the same as to you.
14 Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee.
14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own [things]? Or is your eye evil because I am good?'
15 And is it not lawful for me to do what I will? Or is your eye wicked because I am good?’
15 Have I no right to do what I wish with mine own? Or are you jealous because I am generous?
20:16 "Thus the last shall be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few [are ]chosen."
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last.
16 So then, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. For many are called, but few are chosen.”
20:17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took aside the twelve disciples privately on the road, and He said to them,
17 And Jesus, ascending to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside in private and said to them
20:18 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,
18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death,
18 “Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be handed over to the leaders of the priests and to the scribes. And they shall condemn him to death.
20:19 and they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He shall rise again."
19 and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.
19 And they will deliver him to the Gentiles and they will mock him, and scourge him, and crucify him; and on the third day he will rise up.
20:20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, worshipping [Him,] and asking something from Him.
20 Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshipping [him], and asking a certain thing of him.
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, together with her sons; and she worshipped him, and requested something of him.
20:21 And He said to her, "What do you desire?"She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and one on Your left, in Your kingdom."
21 And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom.
21 He said to her, What do you wish? She said to him, Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your kingdom.
20:22 But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I am about to drink, or to be baptized [with] the baptism that I am baptized with?"They said to Him, "We are able."
22 But Jesus, responding, said: “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the chalice, from which I will drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”
20:23 So He said to them, "You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism [with ]which I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is to [those] for whom it has been prepared by My Father."
23 He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on [my] left hand, is not mine to give; but [it is for them] for whom it hath been prepared of my Father.
20:24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers.
24 And the ten, upon hearing this, became indignant with the two brothers.
24 When the ten heard it, they were angry at the two brothers.
20:25 But Jesus, having summoned them, said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
25 But Jesus called them to himself and said: “You know that the first ones among the Gentiles are their rulers, and that those who are greater exercise power among them.
25 And Jesus called them and said, You know that the princes of the people are also their owners; and their officials rule over them.
20:26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, shall be your servant.
26 It shall not be this way among you. But whoever will want to be greater among you, let him be your minister.
26 Let not this be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you, let him be a minister to you;
20:27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave;
27 and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant
20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life [as ]a ransom for many."
28 even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
20:29 Now as they went out from Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
29 And as they were departing from Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
29 And when Jesus went out of Jericho a large crowd followed him.
20:30 And behold, two blind men sitting alongside the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, "Have pity on us, O Lord, Son of David!"
30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
20:31 But the crowd warned them that they should be silent; but they cried out all the more, saying, "Have pity on us, O Lord, Son of David!"
31 And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David.
31 But the crowd rebuked them to be quiet. But they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, Son of David, take pity on us.”
20:32 And having stood still, Jesus called them, and said, "What do you desire [that] I should do for you?"
32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you?
20:33 They said to Him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."
20:34 And Jesus, having compassion, touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
34 Then Jesus, taking pity on them, touched their eyes. And immediately they saw, and they followed him.
21:1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethsphage, towards the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
1 And when they had drawn near to Jerusalem, and had arrived at Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
1 WHEN he came near to Jerusalem, he came to Bethphage on the side of the Mount of Olives. Jesus then sent two of his disciples,
21:2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied up, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
2 saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose [them], and bring [them] unto me.
2 And he said to them, Go to that village which is in front of you, and straightway you will find an ass which is tied up, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me.
21:3 And if anyone asks you anything, you shall say, 'YHWH has need of them,' and immediately he sends them."
3 And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
21:4 Now all this took place so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying
4 All this happened, so that what was said by the prophet, might be fulfilled, who said,
21:5 "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your King is coming to you, humble, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.' "
5 Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass.
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion: Behold, your king comes to you meekly, sitting on a donkey and on a colt, the son of one accustomed to the yoke.”
21:6 So the disciples went, and did just as Jesus ordered them.
6 And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them,
6 Then the disciples, going out, did just as Jesus instructed them.
21:7 They brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their clothes on them, and they set [Him] on them.
7 and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon.
7 And they brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their garments on them, and they helped him sit upon them.
21:8 And a very large crowd spread their clothes on the road; but others were cutting down branches from the trees and were spreading [them] on the road.
8 And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.
8 Then a very numerous crowd spread their garments on the way. But others cut branches from the trees and scattered them on the way.
21:9 Then the crowds who went before, and those following were crying out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of YHWH!' Hosanna in the highest!"
9 And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
21:10 And when He entered into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred up, saying, "Who is this?"
10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, and they were saying, Who is this man?
21:11 And the crowds were saying, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."
11 And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.
11 But the people were saying, “This is Jesus, the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
21:12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and He cast out all those buying and selling in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of he money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves;
21:13 And He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.'"
21:14 Then the lame and the blind came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.
14 And the blind and the lame drew near to him in the temple; and he healed them.
21:15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonders which He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David,"they became indignant
15 Then the leaders of the priests and the scribes became indignant, seeing the miracles that he wrought, and the children crying out in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
15 But when the high priests and the Pharisees saw the wonders that he did, and the boys who were crying aloud in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David, they were displeased.
21:16 and said to Him, "Do You hear what these [children ]are saying?"And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Did you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?"
16 And they said to him, “Do you hear what these ones are saying?” But Jesus said to them, “Certainly. Have you never read: For out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have perfected praise?”
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
21:17 And having left them, He went out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.
17 And leaving them behind, he went out, beyond the city, into Bethania, and he lodged here.
21:18 Now in the early morning, returning to the city, He became hungry.
18 Then, as he was returning to the city in the morning, he was hungry.
18 In the morning, as he returned to the city, he became hungry.
21:19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "May fruit no longer come from you ever again."And immediately the fig tree withered away.
19 And seeing a certain fig tree beside the way, he approached it. And he found nothing on it, except only leaves. And he said to it, “May fruit never spring forth from you, for all time.” And immediately the fig tree was dried up.
19 And he saw a fig tree on the roadside, and he came to it and found nothing on it except leaves; and he said to it, Let there be no fruit on you again for ever. And shortly the fig tree withered.
21:20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree wither away so soon?"
20 And seeing this, the disciples wondered, saying, “How did it dry up so quickly?”
20 When the disciples saw it, they were amazed and said, How is it that the fig tree has withered so soon?
21:21 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you should say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen.
21 And Jesus responded to them by saying: “Amen I say to you, if you have faith and do not hesitate, not only shall you do this, concerning the fig tree, but even if you would say to this mountain, ‘Take and cast yourself into the sea,’ it shall be done.
21 Jesus answered and said to them, Truly I say to you, If you have faith, and do not doubt, you will perform a deed not only like this of the fig tree, but should you say even to this mountain, Be removed and fall into the sea, it shall be done.
21:22 And all things, as many as you may ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."
22 And all things whatsoever that you shall ask for in prayer: believing, you shall receive.”
22 And everything that you will ask in prayer and believe, you shall receive.
21:23 Now as He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?"
23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
23 When Jesus came to the temple, the high priests and the elders of the people came up to him, while he was teaching, and said to him, By what authority do you do these things? and who gave you this authority?
21:24 But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things
21:25 The baptism of John-where was it from? From heaven or from men?"And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
25 The baptism of John, where was it from? Was it from heaven, or from men?” But they thought within themselves, saying
25 Whence is the baptism of John? Is it from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we should say from heaven, he will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?
21:26 "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet."
26 “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John to be a prophet.”
26 And if we should say, from men, we are afraid of the people, for all of them regard John as a prophet.
21:27 So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know."And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
27 And so, they answered Jesus by saying, “We do not know.” So he also said to them: “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
21:28 "But what do you think? A man had two children. And having come to the first, he said, 'Child, go, work today in my vineyard.'
28 But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard.
28 But how does it seem to you? A certain man had two sons. And approaching the first, he said: ‘Son, go out today to work in my vineyard.’
21:29 "But he answered and said, 'I will not,' but later he regretted it and went.
29 And responding, he said, ‘I am not willing.’ But afterwards, being moved by repentance, he went.
29 He answered and said, I do not want to, but later he regretted and went.
21:30 And having come to the other, he said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I [am going], sir,' but he did not go.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not.
30 And approaching the other, he spoke similarly. And answering, he said, ‘I am going, lord.’ And he did not go.
21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father?"They said to Him, "The first."Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
31 Which of these two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first one. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that even the publicans and the harlots will precede you into the kingdom of God.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
21:32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; but you, having seen, did not repent afterwards, that you might believe him.
32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
21:33 "Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to farmers and went on a journey.
33 Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.
33 Listen to another parable. There was a man, the father of a family, who planted a vineyard, and surrounded it with a hedge, and dug a press in it, and built a tower. And he loaned it out to farmers, and he set out to sojourn abroad.
21:34 Now when [harvest] time of fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, that they might collect his fruits.
34 And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.
21:35 And the farmers took his servants, they beat one, and one they killed, and another they stoned.
35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
35 And the laborers seized his servants, and some were beaten, and some were stoned, and some were killed.
21:36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did to them likewise.
36 Again, he sent other servants, more than before; and they treated them similarly.
21:37 And at last he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
37 Then, at the very end, he sent his son to them, saying: ‘They will revere my son.’
21:38 "But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and let us gain possession of his inheritance.'
38 But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance.
38 But the farmers, seeing the son, said among themselves: ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and then we will have his inheritance.’
21:39 "And taking him, they cast [him] out of the vineyard and killed [him].
39 And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.
39 And apprehending him, they cast him outside the vineyard, and they killed him.
21:40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?"
40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
21:41 They said to Him, "He will destroy [those] wicked [men] miserably, and lease his vineyard to other farmers, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."
41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was YHWH's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?
21:43 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a nation producing the fruits of it.
43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
21:44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."
44 And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.
44 And whoever will have fallen on this stone shall be broken, yet truly, on whomever it shall fall, it will crush him.”
21:45 Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that He was speaking about them.
45 And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
45 When the high priests and Pharisees heard his parables, they understood that he was speaking against them.
21:46 And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, since they considered Him as a prophet.
46 And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.
46 So they wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the people, because they regarded him as a prophet.
22:1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying,
22:2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a wedding for his son,
22:3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they did not want to come.
3 and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.
22:4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Say to those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things [are] ready. Come to the wedding."'
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.
4 Again, he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell the invited: Behold, I have prepared my meal. My bulls and fatlings have been killed, and all is ready. Come to the wedding.’
22:5 "But not caring, they went away, one to his own field, another to his business.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;
22:6 And the rest seized his servants, mistreated [them], and killed [them].
6 Yet truly, the rest took hold of his servants and, having treated them with contempt, killed them.
22:7 And when that king heard, he was furious. And he sent out his troops, and he destroyed those murderers, and he burned up their city.
7 But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
22:8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding indeed is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.
22:9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.'
9 Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast.
9 Go, therefore, to the main roads, and whomever you may find, invite them to the marriage- feast.
22:10 "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding [hall] was filled with guests.
10 And his servants, departing into the ways, gathered all those whom they found, bad and good, and the wedding was filled with guests.
22:11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there not dressed with wedding clothes.
11 Then the king entered to see the guests. And he saw a man there who was not clothed in a wedding garment.
22:12 So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothes?' And he was speechless.
12 and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.
22:13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up hands and feet, take him away, and cast [him] into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
22:14 "For many are called, but few are chosen."
22:15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might trap Him in His speech.
15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in [his] talk.
22:16 And they sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You show favoritism to anyone.
16 And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men.
16 So they sent to him their disciples together with the Herodians, and they said to him, Teacher, we know that you are true, and you teach the way of God justly; and you do not favor any man, for you do not discriminate between men.
22:17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
17 Therefore, tell us, how does it seem to you? Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar, or not?”
22:18 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, [you] hypocrites?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?
18 But Jesus knew their evil, and said, Why do you tempt me, O hypocrites?
22:19 Show Me the tax money."So they brought Him a denarius.
19 Show me the coin of the census tax.” And they offered him a denarius.
19 Show me the head-tax penny. And they brought to him a penny.
22:20 And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"
20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?”
22:21 They said to Him, "Caesar's."And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
21 They say unto him, Caesar`s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar`s; and unto God the things that are God`s.
21 They said, CaesarÆs. He said to them, Give therefore to Caesar what is CaesarÆs, and to God what is GodÆs.
22:22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away.
22 And when they heard it, they marvelled, and left him, and went away.
22 And hearing this, they wondered. And having left him behind, they went away.
22:23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him, and they questioned Him,
23 On that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him,
22:24 saying: "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife as next of kin, and shall raise up offspring for his brother.
24 saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
24 And said to him, Teacher, Moses has told us, If a man die without sons, let his brother take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.
22:25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died, after having married, and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother.
22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, up to the seventh.
26 in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
22:27 Last of all the woman died also.
27 And after them all, the woman died.
27 And last of all, the woman also passed away.
22:28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For [they] all had her."
28 In the resurrection, then, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
29 But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
29 But Jesus responded to them by saying: “You have gone astray by knowing neither the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
22:30 For in the resurrection neither do they marry, nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels of God in heaven.
22:31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
22:32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
22:33 And when the crowds heard [this], they were astonished at His teaching.
22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
34 But the Pharisees, hearing that he had caused the Sadducees to be silent, came together as one.
22:35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,
35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him
22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
22:37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love YHWH your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
37 And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
22:39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
39 And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
39 But the second is similar to it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
22:40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
22:41 And when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
41 Then, when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
22:42 saying, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?"They said to Him, "David's."
42 saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The son] of David.
42 And he said, What do you say concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They said to him, son of David.
22:43 He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying
22:44 'YHWH said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet"'?
44 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet?
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?’
22:45 "If David therefore calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?"
45 If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?
45 So then, if David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?”
22:46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him any longer.
23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,
23:2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat.
2 And he said to them, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on the chair of Moses.
23:3 Therefore whatever they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.
3 all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, [these] do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.
3 Therefore, all things whatsoever that they shall say to you, observe and do. Yet truly, do not choose to act according to their works. For they say, but they do not do.
23:4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay [them] on men's shoulders; but they do not desire to move them with their finger.
4 Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men`s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.
4 And they bind heavy burdens, and put them on menÆs shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to touch them, even with their finger.
23:5 But all their works they do in order to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and they enlarge the borders of their garments.
5 Truly, they do all their works so that they may be seen by men. For they enlarge their phylacteries and glorify their hems.
5 And all their works they do, just to be seen by men; for they widen the fringes of their garments, and they lengthen the ends of their robes,
23:6 They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues,
6 and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
23:7 and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'
7 and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi.
23:8 "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brothers.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren.
8 But you must not be called Master. For One is your Master, and you are all brothers.
23:9 Do not call [anyone] on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
9 And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, [even] he who is in heaven.
9 And call no one on earth, father, for one is your Father in heaven.
23:10 Neither be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.
10 Nor be called leaders, for one is your leader, the Christ.
23:11 But the greatest of you shall be your servant.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
11 Whoever is greater among you shall be your minister.
23:12 And whoever shall exalt himself will be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself will be exalted.
12 For whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
23:13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
23:14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the kingdom of heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows` houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.
14 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you consume the houses of widows, praying long prayers. Because of this, you shall receive the greater judgment.
23:15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you travel around land and sea to make one proselyte, and whenever he becomes [one], you make him twice as much a son of hell as you.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.
23:16 Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, is obligated.'
16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.
23:17 "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
17 Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?
23:18 And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, is obligated.'
18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.
18 And you say: ‘Whoever will have sworn by the altar, it is nothing. But whoever will have sworn by the gift that is on the altar is obligated.’
23:19 "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
23:20 Therefore he that swears by the altar, swears by it and by all the things on it.
20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
23:21 He that swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwelt in it.
21 And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
21 And whoever will have sworn by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it.
23:22 And he that swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
23:23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the more important [things] of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These things you should have done, and not have neglected the others.
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.
23:24 Blind guides, you who strain out a gnat, but swallow a camel!
24 Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!
24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat, while swallowing a camel!
23:25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and unrighteousness.
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess.
23:26 Blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also.
26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, and then what is outside becomes clean.
23:27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness.
23:28 Thus also you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
28 So also, you certainly appear to men outwardly to be just. But inwardly you are filled with hypocrisy and iniquity.
28 Even so, from the outside you appear to men to be righteous, but from within you are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.
23:29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,
23:30 and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'
30 And then you say, ‘If we had been there in the days of our fathers, we would not have joined with them in the blood of the prophets.’
23:31 "So that you testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who killed the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets.
31 Now you testify concerning yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets.
23:32 And you, fill up then, the measure of your fathers' guilt.
32 Complete, then, the measure of your fathers.
32 You also fill up the measure of your fathers.
23:33 Serpents! Brood of vipers! How shall you escape from the condemnation of hell?
33 Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?
33 O you serpents, and seed of scorpions! how can you flee from the judgment of hell?
23:34 Therefore, behold, I send you prophets, wise [men], and scribes: some of them you will kill and you will crucify, and [some] of them you will flog in your synagogues and you will persecute from city to city,
34 For this reason, behold, I send to you prophets and wisemen, and scribes. And some of these you will put to death and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
23:35 so that on you may come all the righteous blood being shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.
35 so that upon you may fall all the blood of the just, which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.
23:36 Assuredly I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.
36 Amen I say to you, all these things shall fall upon this generation.
23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [you] who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and stone those who have been sent to you. How often I have wanted to gather your children together, in the way that a hen gathers her young under her wings. But you were not willing!
23:38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
23:39 For I say to you, you shall by no means see Me from now until you say, 'Blessed [is] He who comes in the name of YHWH!' "
39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
