1 THE BURDEN of the word of YHWH to Israel by Malachi.
1 THE vision of the words of the LORD concerning Israel by Malachi.
2 I have loved you, saith YHWH. Yet ye say: 'Wherein hast Thou loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the YHWH; yet I loved Jacob;
2 I have loved you, says the Lord, and you have said, “In what way have you loved us?” Was not Esau brother to Jacob, says the Lord? And have I not loved Jacob,
3 But Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
3 and hated Esau and laid waste his borders, and made his heritage as dwellings of the wilderness?
3 but held hatred for Esau? And I have set his mountains in solitude, and his inheritance with the serpents of the desert.
4 Whereas Edom saith: 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus saith YHWH of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The border of wickedness, and The people whom the YHWH execrateth for ever.
4 Because one will say, Idumea has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus saith the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set himself for ever.
4 But if Idumea will say, “We have been destroyed, but when we return, we will build up what has been destroyed,” thus says the Lord of hosts: They will build up, and I will destroy. And they will be called “The limits of impiety,” and, “The people with whom the Lord has been angry, even to eternity.”
5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say: 'YHWH is great beyond the border of Israel.'
5 And your eyes will see. And you will say, “May the Lord be magnified beyond the limits of Israel.”
