1  "These things I have spoken to you, so that you should not be made to stumble.

1  These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

2  They will excommunicate you; but a time is coming when everyone who kills you will think that he is offering God a service.

2  They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God.

2  They will put you out of the synagogues. But the hour is coming when everyone who puts you to death will consider that he is offering an excellent service to God.

3  And these things they will do [to you ]because they did not know the Father nor Me.

4  But these things I have spoken to you, so that when the time comes, you may remember them, that I told you. But these things I did not say to you from the beginning, because I was with you.

4  I have spoken these things to you, that when their time does come, you may remember them, and that I told you. And these things I did not tell you before, because I was with you.

5  "But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'

5  But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

5  But I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I am going to him who sent me. And no one among you has asked me, ‘Where are you going?’

6  "But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

7  Nevertheless I speak the truth to you. It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

7  But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I am going. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But when I will have gone away, I will send him to you.

8  And when He comes, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment

8  And when he has arrived, he will argue against the world, about sin and about justice and about judgment

8  And when he is come, he will rebuke the world concerning sin, concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.

9  of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

9  about sin, indeed, because they have not believed in me;

9  Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;

10  of righteousness, because I am going to My Father and you see Me no more;

10  about justice, truly, because I am going to the Father, and you will not see me any longer;

11  of judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

11  about judgment, then, because the prince of this world has already been judged.

12  I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

12  Again, I have many other things to tell you, but you cannot grasp them now.

13  However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own [authority], but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will announce to you things to come.

13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

13  But when the Spirit of truth has arrived, he will teach the whole truth to you. For he will not be speaking from himself. Instead, whatever he will hear, he will speak. And he will announce to you the things that are to come.

14  He will glorify Me, for He will take from what is Mine and He will announce it to you.

14  He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

15  All things which the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He takes from what is Mine and will announce it to you.

15  All things whatsoever that the Father has are mine. For this reason, I said that he will receive from what is mine and that he will announce it to you.

15  Everything that my Father has is mine; this is the reason why I told you that he will take of my own and show to you.

16  "A little [while] and you will not see Me; and again a little [while] and you will see Me, because I am going to the Father."

16  A little while, and ye behold me no more; and again a little while, and ye shall see me.

16  A little while, and then you will not see me. And again a little while, and you will see me. For I am going to the Father.”

17  Then [some] of His disciples said to one another, "What is this that He says to us, 'A little [while] and you will not see Me; and again a little [while] and you will see Me'; and, 'I am going to the Father'?"

17  [Some] of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

18  Therefore they said, "What is this that He says, 'A little [while]'? We do not understand what He is saying."

18  And they said: “What is this, that he is saying, ‘A little while?’ We do not understand what he is saying.”

19  Now Jesus knew that they were desiring to ask Him, and He said to them, "Are you inquiring with one another that I said, 'A little [while] and you will not see Me; and again a little [while] and you will see Me'?

19  But Jesus realized that they wanted to question him, and so he said to them: “Are you inquiring among yourselves about this, that I said: ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’

20  Most assuredly I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be grieved, but your grief will be turned into joy.

20  Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21  A woman, whenever she gives birth, has sorrow, because her hour has come; but whenever the child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish, on account of the joy that a human being has been born into the world.

21  When a woman is in travail, she is depressed, because her day has arrived; but when she has given birth to a son, she no longer remembers her troubles, because of the joy that a male child is born into the world.

21  A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22  Therefore you also now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

22  And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

22  So you also are depressed; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man will take away from you.

23  And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

23  And, in that day, you will not petition me for anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you.

23  In that day you will not ask me anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, that whatever you ask my Father in my name, he will give it to you.

24  Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

24  Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.

25  "These things I have spoken to you in figures of speech; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

25  These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

25  I have spoken these things to you in proverbs. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs; instead, I will announce to you plainly from the Father.

26  In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will beseech the Father for you;

27  for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

28  I came forth from the Father and I have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father."

28  I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.

29  His disciples said to Him, "See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!

29  His disciples say, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying.

30  Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God."

30  Now we know that you know all things, and that you have no need for anyone to question you. By this, we believe that you went forth from God.”

30  Now we understand that you know everything; and you need no man to ask you; by this we believe that you have come forth from God.

31  Jesus answered them, "Now do you believe?

31  Jesus said to them, Believe it.

32  Indeed a time is coming, and now has come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and you will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

32  Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and [yet] I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

32  Behold, the hour is coming, and it has now arrived, when you will be scattered, each one on his own, and you will leave me behind, alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

33  These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but have courage, I have overcome the world."

17:1  Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the time has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,

1  These things spake Jesus; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the son may glorify thee

17:2  just as You have given Him authority over all flesh, so that He will give eternal life to all You have given Him.

2  even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that to all whom thou hast given him, he should give eternal life.

2  Since you have given him power over all flesh, so that to all whom you have given him, he may give life eternal.

17:3  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

17:4  I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

4  I have already glorified you on the earth; for the work which you had given to me to do, I have finished it.

17:5  And now, O Father, glorify Me alongside Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

5  And now, Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

17:6  I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You have given them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

6  I manifested thy name unto the men whom thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them to me; and they have kept thy word.

17:7  Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.

17:8  Because I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received [them], and they knew truly that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

8  for the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them; and they received [them], and knew of a truth that I came forth from thee, and they believed that thou didst send me.

8  For I have given them the words that you gave to me. And they have accepted these words, and they have truly understood that I went forth from you, and they have believed that you sent me.

17:9  I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for [those] whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.

9  What I request is for them; I make no request for the world, but for those whom you have given to me; because they are yours.

17:10  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours [are] Mine, and I have been glorified in them.

10  And everything which is mine, is yours; and what is yours is mine; and I am glorified by them.

17:11  And I am no longer in the world, yet these are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name which You have given to Me, that they may be one just as We [are].

11  And though I am not in the world, these are in the world, and I am coming to you. Father most holy, preserve them in your name, those whom you have given to me, so that they may be one, even as we are one.

11  And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

17:12  When I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. [Those] whom You have given to Me I guarded; and not one of them is lost except the son of perdition, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

12  While I was with them, I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

17:13  But now I am coming to You, and these things I speak in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

13  Now I am coming to you; and these things I speak while I am in the world, that my joy may be complete in them.

13  And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

17:14  I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

17:15  I do not ask that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil [one].

15  I am not praying that you would take them out of the world, but that you would preserve them from evil.

17:16  They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

17:17  Sanctify them by Your truth; Your word is truth.

17  O Father, sanctify them in your truth, because your word is truth.

17:18  Just as You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

18  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

17:19  And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by [the] truth.

19  And it is for them that I sanctify myself, so that they, too, may be sanctified in truth.

17:20  "I am not praying for these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word;

17:21  so that they all may be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

21  that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us: that the world may believe that thou didst send me.

17:22  And the glory which You have given to Me, I have given to them, so that they may be one just as We are one

17:23  I in them, and You in Me; so that they may be perfected in unity, and so that the world may know that You have sent Me, and You loved them just as You loved Me.

23  I am in them, and you are in me. So may they be perfected as one. And may the world know that you have sent me and that you have loved them, just as you have also loved me.

17:24  Father, I desire that those also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, so that they may behold My glory which You gave to Me; because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

24  O Father, I wish that those whom you have given me, may also be with me where I am; so that they may see my glory which you have given me; for you have loved me before the foundation of the world.

17:25  O righteous Father! Indeed the world did not know You, yet I knew You; and these knew that You sent Me.

25  Father most just, the world has not known you. But I have known you. And these have known that you sent me.

17:26  And I made known to them Your name, and I will make it known, so that the love [with] which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

26  And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

18:1  After saying these things, Jesus went out with His disciples across the winter stream Kidron, where there[ was] a garden, into which He and His disciples entered.

18:3  Then Judas, having taken the detachment [of soldiers], and attendants from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

18:4  Jesus therefore, knowing all things coming upon Him, went out and said to them, "Whom do you seek?"

4  And so Jesus, knowing all that was about to happen to him, advanced and said to them, “Who are you seeking?”

4  Jesus, knowing everything that was to happen, went out and said to them. Whom do you want?

18:5  They answered Him, "Jesus the Nazarene."Jesus said to them, "I AM."And Judas, the [one] betraying Him, was standing with them.

18:6  Therefore when He said to them, "I AM,"they stepped back and fell to the ground.

6  As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

18:7  Then He asked them again, "Whom do you seek?"And they said, "Jesus the Nazarene."

7  Then again he questioned them: “Who are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

7  Jesus again asked them, Whom do you want? They said, Jesus the Nazarene.

18:8  Jesus answered, "I have told you that I AM! Therefore if you seek Me, allow these [men] to go,"

8  Jesus responded: “I told you that I am he. Therefore, if you are seeking me, permit these others to go away.”

8  Jesus said to them, I have told you that I am he; if then you want me, let these men go away;

18:9  so that the word might be fulfilled which He said, "[Those] whom You have given Me I have lost none."

9  that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast given me I lost not one.

9  This was so that the word might be fulfilled, which he said, “Of those whom you have given to me, I have not lost any of them.”

18:10  Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the servant's name was Malchus.

18:11  Then Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"

11  Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

11  Therefore, Jesus said to Peter: “Set your sword into the scabbard. Should I not drink the chalice which my father has given to me?”

18:12  Then the detachment [of soldiers] and the captain and the attendants of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.

12  So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

18:13  And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.

18:14  Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was profitable for one man to perish for the people.

14  Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

14  Caiaphas was the one who had counselled the Jews, that it was better for one man to die instead of the people.

18:15  And Simon Peter was following Jesus, as was the other disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.

15  Simon Peter and one of the other disciples followed Jesus. The high priest knew that disciple, so he entered with Jesus into the courtyard.

18:16  But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.

16  But Peter was standing outside at the entrance. Therefore, the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the woman who was the doorkeeper, and he led in Peter.

16  But Simon stood outside near the door. Then the other disciple, whom the high priest knew, went out and told the portress, and brought in Simon.

18:17  Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this Man's disciples, [are you]?"He said, "I am not."

18:18  And the servants and attendants who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they were warming themselves. Now Peter was standing with them and warming himself.

18  Now the servants and the officers were standing [there], having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves: and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.

18  And the servants and guards were standing and making a fire, to warm themselves because it was cold; Simon also stood with them and warmed himself.

18:19  Then high priest asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.

19  Then the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his doctrine.

19  The high priest then questioned Jesus concerning his disciples and concerning his teaching.

18:20  Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and in secret I spoke nothing.

20  Jesus responded to him: “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews meet. And I have said nothing in secret.

18:21  Why do you question Me? Question those who have heard Me, what I spoke to them. Indeed they know what I said."

21  Why askest thou me? Ask them that have heard [me], what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said.

21  Why do you ask me? ask those who heard what I have spoken to them; behold, they know everything which I said.

18:22  And when He had said these things, one of the attendants who stood by slapped Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Is this how You answer the high priest?"

22  Then, when he had said this, one the attendants standing nearby struck Jesus, saying: “Is this the way you answer the high priest?”

18:23  Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?"

23  Jesus answered him: “If I have spoken wrongly, offer testimony about the wrong. But if I have spoken correctly, then why do you strike me?”

23  Jesus answered and said to him, If I have spoken any evil, testify to the evil; but if it is good, why did you strike me?

18:24  Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

24  Annas therefore sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

18:25  Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. Therefore they said to him, "You are not also [one] of His disciples, [are you]?"Then he denied it and said, "I am not!"

25  And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

18:26  One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with Him?"

26  Then one of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman of him whose ear Simon had cut off, Did I not see you with him in the garden?

18:27  Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.

27  Therefore, again, Peter denied it. And immediately the rooster crowed.

27  Simon again denied; and at that very hour the cock crew.

18:28  Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover.

28  Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was morning; and they did not enter into the praetorium, so that they may not be defiled before they ate the passover.

28  Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

18:29  Then Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?"

29  Pilate then went outside where they were, and said to them, What accusation do you have against this man?

18:30  They answered and said to him, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him over to you."

18:31  Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him and judge Him according to your law."Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to kill anyone,"

18:32  that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He said, signifying by what sort of death He was about to die.

18:33  Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"

33  Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

18:34  Jesus answered him, "For yourself do you say this, or did others tell you about Me?"

18:35  Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?"

35  Pilate said to him, Why, am I a Jew? Your own people and the high priests have delivered you to me; what have you done?

18:36  Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I might not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."

36  Jesus responded: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my ministers would certainly strive so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not now from here.”

18:37  Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?"Jesus answered, "You say [rightly] that I am a king. For this [reason] I have been born, and for this [reason] I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

37  And so Pilate said to him, “You are a king, then?” Jesus answered, “You are saying that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world: so that I may offer testimony to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.”

37  Pilate said to him, Then are you a king? Jesus said to him, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this very thing I came to the world, that I may bear witness concerning the truth. Whoever is of the truth will hear my voice.

18:38  Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?"And having said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him.

38  Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him.

18:39  "But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you wish [that] I should release the King of the Jews?"

39  But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

18:40  Then they all cried out again, saying, "Not this [Man], but Barabbas!"Now Barabbas was a bandit.

40  They cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.)

40  They all cried out saying, Not him, but Bar-Abbas. Now this Bar-Abbas was a bandit.

19:1  So then Pilate took Jesus and flogged [Him].

19:2  And the soldiers twisted a crown out of thorns and put it on His head, and they put a purple robe around Him.

2  A nd the soldiers wove a crown of thorns, and placed it on his head, and they covered him with purple robes;

19:3  And they kept saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"And they were striking Him with their hands.

3  And they said, Peace be to you, O king of the Jews! and they struck him on his cheeks.

19:4  Pilate then went out again, and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, so that you may know that I find no fault in Him."

4  Then Pilate went outside again, and he said to them: “Behold, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may realize that I find no case against him.”

4  Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

19:5  Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, "Behold, the Man!"

19:7  The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God."

19:8  Therefore, when Pilate heard this saying, he was [even] more afraid,

19:9  and he entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?"But Jesus gave him no answer.

9  And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

19:10  Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to crucify You, and I have authority to release You?"

10  Pilate therefore saith unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? Knowest thou not that I have power to release thee, and have power to crucify thee?

19:11  Jesus answered, "You would have no authority at all against Me unless it had been given to you from above. Therefore the one who betrayed Me to you has a greater sin."

11  Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.

11  Jesus said to him, You would have no authority whatever over me, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the sin of him who delivered me to you is greater than yours.

19:12  From this [point ]Pilate was seeking to release Him, but the Jews kept crying out, saying, "If you release this [Man], you are no friend of Caesar's. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar."

12  Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar`s friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

12  And from then on, Pilate was seeking to release him. But the Jews were crying out, saying: “If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar. For anyone who makes himself a king contradicts Caesar.”

19:13  Therefore Pilate, having heard this saying, led Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in a place that is called [The] Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

13  Now when Pilate had heard these words, he brought Jesus outside, and he sat down in the seat of judgment, in a place which is called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, it is called the Elevation.

19:14  Now it was the Preparation [Day] of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"

14  It was Friday of the passover, and it was about six oÆclock; and he said to the Jews, Behold your king!

19:15  But they cried out, "Away [with Him], away [with Him]! Crucify Him!"Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?"The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"

15  But they were crying out: “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The high priests responded, “We have no king except Caesar.”

19:16  Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led [Him ]away.

16  Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified.

19:17  And bearing His cross, He went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,

19:19  Now Pilate wrote a title and he put [it] on the cross. And it was written: JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

19  Then Pilate also wrote a title, and he set it above the cross. And it was written: JESUS THE NAZARENE, KING OF THE JEWS.

19  Pilate also wrote on a stone tablet, and placed it on his cross. And the writing was, THIS IS JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

19:20  Then many of the Jews read this title, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Greek, and in Latin.

20  This title therefore read many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, [and] in Latin, [and] in Greek.

20  And a great many Jews read this tablet, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew and in Greek and in Roman.

19:21  Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'He said, "I am the King of the Jews."' "

21  Then the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Do not write, ‘King of the Jews,’ but that he said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’

19:22  Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

19:23  Then the soldiers, when they crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was seamless, woven from the top in one piece.

23  The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

23  Now when the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, a part to each of the soldiers; but his robe was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

19:24  Therefore they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but let us cast lots for it, whose it will be,"so that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."Therefore the soldiers did these things.

24  Then they said to one another, “Let us not cut it, but instead let us cast lots over it, to see whose it will be.” This was so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, saying: “They have distributed my garments among themselves, and for my vesture they have cast lots.” And indeed, the soldiers did these things.

19:25  Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

25  These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother`s sister, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

25  And standing beside the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, and Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

19:26  Therefore Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!"

26  When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing, he said to his mother, Woman, behold your son!

19:27  Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!"And from that hour that disciple took her into his own [care].

19:28  After this, Jesus, seeing that all things already had been fulfilled, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, "I thirst!"

28  After this Jesus, knowing that all things are now finished, that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.

19:29  Now a vessel was set full of sour wine; and they, having filled a sponge with sour wine, put it around a hyssop, they held it to His mouth.

29  There was set there a vessel full of vinegar: so they put a sponge full of the vinegar upon hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.

29  Now there was a pitcher full of vinegar placed there; so they filled a sponge with vinegar and put it on the point of a reed, and placed it on his mouth.

19:30  Therefore when Jesus received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!"And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

30  When Jesus drank the vinegar, he said, It is fulfilled; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

19:31  Therefore the Jews, since it was the Preparation [Day], that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away.

31  Now because it was Friday the Jews said, Let not these bodies remain on their crosses because the sabbath is dawning; for that sabbath was a great day. So they besought Pilate to have the legs of those who were crucified broken, and to have them lowered down.

19:32  Then the soldiers came and they broke the legs of the first [man,] and of the other who was crucified with Him.

19:33  But having come to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

33  But after they had approached Jesus, when they saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

19:34  But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

34  howbeit one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and straightway there came out blood and water.

19:35  And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he tells the truth, so that you may believe.

19:36  For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not a bone of His shall be broken."

36  For these things happened that the scripture might be fulfilled, which said, Not even a bone shall be broken in him;

19:37  And again another Scripture says, "They shall look at [Him] whom they pierced."

19:38  After these things[,] Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away the body of Jesus.

19:39  And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

19:41  Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been buried.

19:42  So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, because the tomb was near.

42  There then because of the Jews` Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.

20:1  On the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

20:8  Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.

20:15  Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?"She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, "Sir, if You carried Him away, tell me where You put Him, and I will take Him away."

20:16  Jesus said to her, "Mary!"She turned and said to Him, "Rabboni!"(which means, Teacher).

16  Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turneth herself, and saith unto him in Hebrew, Rabboni; which is to say, Teacher.

20:17  Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.' "

17  Jesus saith to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended unto the Father: but go unto my brethren, and say to them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.

20:18  Mary Magdalene went reporting to the disciples that she had seen YHWH, and [that] He had spoken these things to her.

18  Then Mary of Magdala came and brought glad tidings to the disciples, that she had seen our Lord and that he had told her these things.

20:19  Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace to you."

20:20  And having said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw YHWH.

20:24  But Thomas, one of the twelve, the [one ]called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.

20:25  The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen YHWH."So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will by no means believe."

25  Therefore, the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I will see in his hands the mark of the nails and place my finger into the place of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

25  And the disciples said to him, We have seen our Lord. He said to them, Unless I see in his hands the places of the nails, and put my fingers in them, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.

20:26  And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been closed, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"

26  Eight days later, the disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, when the doors were locked, and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be with you.

20:27  Then He said to Thomas, "Bring your finger here, and see My hands; and bring your hand here, and put [it] into My side. Be not unbelieving, but believing."

27  Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and see my hands; and reach [hither] thy hand, and put it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

27  Next, he said to Thomas: “Look at my hands, and place your finger here; and bring your hand close, and place it at my side. And do not choose to be unbelieving, but faithful.”

20:28  And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"

28  Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

20:29  Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

29  Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.

20:30  And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;

30  Jesus also accomplished many other signs in the sight of his disciples. These have not been written in this book.

20:31  but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that [by ]believing you may have life in His name.

31  Even these are written, so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and when you believe you shall have life everlasting in his name.

21:1  After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this manner He showed Himself

21:2  Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the [sons] of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

21:4  But as daybreak had already come, Jesus stood upon the shore; however the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

4  But when morning arrived, Jesus stood on the shore. Yet the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

21:5  Then Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any food?"They answered Him, "No."

21:6  And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find [some]."Therefore they cast, and they were not able to haul it in because of the multitude of fish.

21:7  Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is YHWH!"Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and he threw himself into the sea.

7  Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, That is our Lord. When Simon heard that it was our Lord, he took his cloak and girded it around his waist, because he was naked; and he jumped into the sea to come to Jesus.

21:8  But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from the land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.

21:12  Jesus said to them, "Come, eat breakfast."Yet none of the disciples dared to question Him, "Who are You?"-knowing that it was YHWH.

12  Jesus saith unto them, Come [and] break your fast. And none of the disciples durst inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

12  Jesus said to them, “Approach and dine.” And not one of them sitting down to eat dared to ask him, “Who are you?” For they knew that it was the Lord.

21:13  Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

21:14  This [was] now the third time Jesus was manifested to His disciples, having been raised from the dead.

21:17  He said to him the third time, "Simon, [son] of Jonah, do you care for Me?"Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you care for Me?"And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I care for You."Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

17  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

21:18  Most assuredly I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and used to walk where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and will carry [you] where you do not wish."

18  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

18  Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked wherever you wanted. But when you are older, you will extend your hands, and another shall gird you and lead you where you do not want to go.”

21:19  But this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me."

21:20  Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had reclined on His chest at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"

20  Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?

20  Simon Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following him, the one who leaned on the breast of Jesus at the supper, and said, My Lord, who will betray you?

21:21  Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what [about] this [man]?"

21  Therefore, when Peter had seen him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, but what about this one?”

21  When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, My Lord, what about him?

21:22  Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is [that] to you? You follow Me."

21:23  Therefore this saying went out among the brothers that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is [that] to you?"

23  This saying therefore went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, that he should not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what [is that] to thee?

23  This word then went out among the brethren, that that disciple would not die. But what Jesus said was not that he would not die; but, If I wish that he should remain until I come back, what difference does that make to you?

21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things
