1  Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2  And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi- shua, the sons of Saul.

2  And when the Philistines had draw near, pursuing Saul and his sons, they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

3  And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was in anguish by reason of the archers.

3  And the battle grew heavy against Saul. And the archers found him, and they wounded him with arrows.

4  Then said Saul unto his armour-bearer: 'Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and make a mock of me.' But his armour-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

4  And Saul said to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me. But his armour-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid: so Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5  And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

6  So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

6  Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons passed away, and his entire house fell, together.

6  So Saul died and his three sons and his armourbearer, and all his mighty men died on that day together.

7  And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

7  And when the men of Israel who were living in the plains had seen this, they fled. And since Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and were dispersed, here and there. And the Philistines arrived and lived among them.

8  And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

8  Then, on the next day, when the Philistines were taking away the spoils of the slain, they found Saul and his sons, lying on mount Gilboa.

9  And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

9  And when they had despoiled him, and had cut off his head, and had stripped his armor, they sent these things into their land, so that they would be carried around and displayed in the temples of the idols and to the people.

9  And they cut off their heads, stripped them of their armour, and sent them to the land of the Philistines, throughout the towns and cities and provinces to carry the good tidings to their idols and to their people;

10  And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

10  But his armor they consecrated in the shrine of their god, and his head they affixed in the temple of Dagon.

10  And they put their garments and their armour in the house of their idols, and hanged their bodies by the wall of Beth-jashan.

11  And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

11  And all the dwellers in Galaad heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul and to Israel.

11  When the men of Jabesh Gilead had heard this, specifically, all that the Philistines had done concerning Saul,

12  all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

12  They arose, all the valiant men, and went all the night, and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-jashan, and brought them to Jabesh and burned them there; then they took their bones and buried them under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13  So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against YHWH, because of the word of the YHWH, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of a ghost, to inquire thereby,

13  Thus did Saul die for his iniquities, because he betrayed the commandment of the Lord which he had instructed, and did not keep it. And moreover, he even consulted a woman diviner;

13  So Saul died because of the transgression which he committed against the LORD, and because of the command of the LORD, which he kept not,

14  and inquired not of YHWH; therefore He slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

14  for he did not trust in the Lord. Because of this, he caused his death, and he transferred his kingdom to David, the son of Jesse.

14  And also because he consulted men who had familiar spirits, and did not inquire of the LORD his God. Therefore his kingdom was given to David the son of Jesse.

11:1  Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying: 'Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

1  And all Israel came to David in Chebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bones and thy flesh.

1  Then all of Israel was gathered to David at Hebron, saying: “We are your bone and your flesh.

11:2  In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and YHWH thy God said unto thee: Thou shalt feed My people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over My people Israel.'

2  And heretofore when Saul was king, thou wast he that led Israel in and out, and the Lord of Israel said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be for a ruler over Israel.

2  Also, yesterday and the day before, when Saul still reigned, you were the one who led out and brought in Israel. For the Lord your God said to you: ‘You shall pasture my people Israel, and you shall be the leader over them.’ ”

11:3  So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before YHWH; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the YHWH by the hand of Samuel.

3  Therefore, all those greater by birth of Israel went to the king at Hebron. And David formed a pact with them before the Lord. And they anointed him king over Israel, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke by the hand of Samuel.

11:4  And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem--the same is Jebus--and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

4  And the king and his men went to Jerusalem, this is Jebus; and there the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land said to David,

4  Then David and all of Israel went to Jerusalem. The same is Jebus, where the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were.

11:5  And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: 'Thou shalt not come in hither.' Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

5  Thou shalt not enter in hither. But he took the strong hold of Sion: this is the city of David.

5  And those who were living in Jebus said to David: “You shall not enter here.” But David seized the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.

11:6  And David said: 'Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.' And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

6  And he said, “Whoever shall strike the Jebusites first, shall be ruler and commander.” And so Joab, the son of Zeruiah, ascended first, and he was made the leader.

6  And David said, Whoever smites a Jebusite person first shall be chief and commander of the army. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and King David appointed him chief and commander of the army.

11:7  And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

7  Then David lived in the stronghold, and for this reason it was called the City of David.

11:8  And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

8  And he fortified the city round about.

8  And David built the city round about, even from Millo, which is outside; and David gave the east side of the city to the rest of the people who were in the villages.

11:9  And David waxed greater and greater; for YHWH of hosts was with him.

9  And David continued to increase, and the Lord Almighty was with him.

9  So David became greater and greater; and the LORD of hosts was with him.

11:10  Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of YHWH concerning Israel.

10  These are the leaders of the strong men of David, who assisted him, so that he would become king over all of Israel, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel.

10  These are the chiefs of David's mighty men, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom and helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the LORD which he spoke concerning Israel.

11:11  And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the captains; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time.

11  And this is the list of the mighty men of David; Jesebada, son of Achaman, first of the thirty: he drew his sword once against three hundred whom he slew at one time.

11:12  And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

12  And after him, there was Eleazar, the son of his uncle, an Ahohite, who was among the three powerful ones.

11:13  He was with David at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

11:14  But they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and YHWH saved them by a great victory.

14  These men stood in the midst of the field, and they defended it. And when they had struck down the Philistines, the Lord gave a great salvation to his people.

14  And they set themselves in the midst of the field, and delivered it and slew the Philistines; and the LORD wrought a great victory.

11:15  And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, unto the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

15  Then three from the thirty leaders descended to the rock where David was, to the cave of Adullam, when the Philistines had made camp in the Valley of the Rephaim.

15  Now three of the thirty chieftains went down to David, into the cave of Arlam; and the host of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Gabarey.

11:16  And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

16  Now David was in a stronghold, and a garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem.

11:17  And David longed, and said: 'Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!'

11:18  And the three broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto YHWH,

18  Therefore, these three broke through to the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water from the well of Bethlehem, which was at the gate. And they took it to David, so that he might drink. But he was not willing; and instead, he offered it as a libation to the Lord,

18  And as soon as three men heard it, they broke through the camp of the Philistines, and went and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem that was by the gate of the city, and took it and brought it to David; but David would not drink of it, but poured it out in the presence of the LORD,

11:19  and said: 'My God forbid it me, that I should do this; shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it.' Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

19  saying: “Far be it from me, that I would do this in the sight of my God, and that I would drink the blood of these men. For at the peril of their own lives, they brought the water to me.” And for this reason, he was not willing to drink. The three most powerful accomplished these things.

11:20  And Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.

20  Also, Abishai, the brother of Joab, was the leader of the three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred, who were wounded. And he was most renown among the three,

11:21  Of the three in the second rank he was the most honourable, and was made their captain; howbeit he attained not to the first three.

21  and he was famous among the second three and their leader. Yet truly, he did not reach as far as the first three.

21  He was more honorable than the thirty men, and he became their chief and fought like thirty men.

11:22  Beniah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he smote the two altar-hearths of Moab; he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.

22  And Banaia the son of Jodae was the son of a mighty man: many were his acts for Cabasael: he smote two lion-like men of Moab, and he went down and smote a lion in a pit on a snowy day.

11:23  And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

23  And he struck down an Egyptian man, whose stature was five cubits, and who had a spear like a weaver’s beam. And yet he descended to him with a staff. And he seized the spear that he was holding in his hand. And he killed him with his own spear.

11:24  These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.

24  These things were done by Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, who was most renowned among the three robust ones,

11:25  Behold, he was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three; and David set him over his guard.

25  He was distinguished beyond the thirty, yet he reached not to the first three: and David set him over his family.

25  And he was honorable among the three valiant men, for he fought like three mighty men; and David set him over his bodyguard and over the chiefs of the army;

11:26  Also the mighty men of valour: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem;

26  And the mighty men of the forces were, Asael the brother of Joab, Eleanan the son of Dodoe of Bethleem,

26  Moreover, the strongest men of the army were Asahel, the brother of Joab; and Elhanan, the son of his uncle, from Bethlehem;

1Chr12:1  Also, these went to David at Ziklag, while he was still fleeing from Saul, the son of Kish. And they were very strong and distinguished fighters,

12:1  Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he was yet shut up because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.

1Chr12:2  bending the bow, and using either hand in casting stones with slings, and shooting arrows. From the brothers of Saul, out of Benjamin

1  NOW these are all the mighty men of David, who stood by him in the battle, and they came with David to the city of Zinklag, when he fled from Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men who stood before David. If David had wished, they would have slain Saul the son of Kish, for they were mighty men of war, but David would not permit them to slay Saul.

12:2  They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Saul's brethren of Benjamin.

1Chr12:3  the leader was Ahiezer, with Joash, sons of Shemaah from Gibeah, and Jeziel and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah and Jehu, from Anathoth.

2  They held the bows with their left hand and the swords with their right, and their bows were filled with arrows, but David was unwilling to slay Saul, because he was the chief, the prince of the tribe of Benjamin.

12:3  The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite;

12:8  And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valour, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;

8  And from Gad these separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong mighty men of war, bearing shields and spears, and their faces were as the face of a lion, and they were nimble as roes upon the mountains in speed.

1Chr12:14  These were from the sons of Gad, leaders of the army. The least was in charge of one hundred soldiers, and the greatest was in charge of one thousand.

12:14  These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host; he that was least was equal to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand.

14  These were chiefs of the army of the sons of Gad, the least one commander of a hundred, and the greatest one of a thousand.

1Chr12:15  These are the ones who crossed over the Jordan in the first month, when it is accustomed to overflow its banks. And they put to flight all those who were staying in the valleys, to the eastern region and to the west.

12:15  These are they that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

1Chr12:16  Then some from Benjamin and from Judah also arrived at the stronghold where David was staying.

15  These are they who crossed the Jordan in the month of Nisan, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all the army that was encamped in the valley, both toward the east and toward the west. And these are the numbers of the commanders of the army who gathered together and came to David to Hebron to give him the kingdom of Saul, so that the word of Samuel the prophet might be fulfilled, who spoke by the command of the LORD.

12:16  And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold unto David.

1Chr12:17  And David went out to meet them, and he said: “If you have arrived peacefully, so as to be a help to me, may my heart be joined to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, though I have no iniquity in my hands, may the God of our fathers see and judge.”

12:17  And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them: 'If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and give judgment.'

1Chr12:18  Truly, the Spirit clothed Amasai, the leader among the thirty, and he said: “O David, we are yours! O son of Jesse, we are for you! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers. For your God helps you.” Therefore, David received them, and he appointed them as leaders of troops.

17  And David went out to meet them and blessed them, and said to them, If you have come peaceably to me to help us, then may the LORD grant you a double portion of that which you have in your heart; but if you have come to betray me and to deliver me to my adversaries, seeing that I have not sinned against you and there is no wrong in my hands, the God of my fathers knows it, and he will rebuke whoever is wrong among us.

12:18  Then the spirit clothed Amasai, who was chief of the captains: Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse; peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

1Chr12:19  Moreover, some from Manasseh crossed over to David, when he went forth with the Philistines against Saul, so that he might fight. But he did not fight with them. For the leaders of the Philistines, taking counsel, sent him back, saying, “To the peril of our own heads, he will return to his lord, Saul.”

18  Then the spirit of might came upon Amasa, the son of Jatar, chief of the thirty, and he answered and said to David, Come on, David, come on, O son of Jesse! I am also with you, peace be to you, be not afraid, and peace will be given to you from your helpers; for your God is your helper in every hour. Then David received them, and made them captains of the army.

12:19  Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they helped them not; for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying: 'He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.'

1Chr12:20  And so, when he returned to Ziklag, some fled over to him from Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Adnah, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, leaders of thousands in Manasseh.

12:20  As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands that were of Manasseh.

1Chr12:21  These offered assistance to David against the robbers. For all were very strong men, and they became leaders in the army.

20  And as he goes to Zinklag, we will besiege him and capture him alive. These are their names: Ada, Zabor, Jediael, Michael, Elihu, and Jozabad, commanders of thousands of the house of Manasseh.

12:21  And they helped David against the troop, for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.

1Chr12:22  Then, too, some came to David throughout each day, in order to help him, until they became a great number, like the army of God.

1Chr12:30  Then from the sons of Ephraim, there were twenty thousand eight hundred, very strong and robust men, renowned among their kindred.

1Chr12:31  And out of the one half tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, each by their names, went forth so that they might appoint David as king.

31  And of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding in their times, who did good and upright deeds before the LORD; their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren did whatever they were commanded.

12:32  And of the children of Issachar, men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

12:33  Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand; and that could order the battle array, and were not of double heart.

33  And of Zabulon they that went out to battle, with all weapons of war, were fifty thousand to help David, not weak-handed.

1Chr12:34  And from Naphtali, there were one thousand leaders; and with them were thirty-seven thousand, prepared with shield and spear.

1Chr12:37  Then, across the Jordan, there were, from the sons of Reuben, and from Gad, and from the one half tribe of Manasseh, one hundred twenty thousand, prepared with the weapons of warfare.

12:37  And on the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.

37  And from the country beyond Jordan, from Ruben, and the Gadites, and from the half-tribe of Manasse, a hundred and twenty thousand, with all weapons of war.

1Chr12:38  All these men of war, equipped for the fight, went with a perfect heart to Hebron, so that they might appoint David as king over all of Israel. Then, too, all the remainder of Israel were of one heart, so that they might make David king.

12:38  All these, being men of war, that could order the battle array, came with a whole heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

1Chr12:39  And they were in that place with David for three days, eating and drinking. For their brothers had made preparations for them.

1Chr12:40  Moreover, those who were near to them, even as far as Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali, were bringing, on donkeys and camels and mules and oxen, bread for their provisions, with grain, dried figs, dried grapes, wine, oil, and oxen and sheep, with all abundance. For indeed, there was joy in Israel.

39  Now these were the names of the tribes who supplied them with food, who were near them

12:40  Moreover they that were nigh unto them, even as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victual of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.

1Chr13:1  Then David took counsel with the tribunes, and the centurions, and all the leaders.

13:1  And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.

1Chr13:2  And he said to the entire assembly of Israel: “If it pleases you, and if the words that I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the remainder of our brothers, in all the regions of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who live in the suburbs of the cities, so that they may gather to us.

13:2  And David said unto all the assembly of Israel: 'If it seem good unto you, and if it be of YHWH our God, let us send abroad everywhere unto our brethren that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites that are in their cities that have open land about them, that they may gather themselves unto us;

1Chr13:3  And let us bring back the ark of our God to us. For we did not seek it during the days of Saul.”

2  And David said to all the assemblies of Israel, If it seems good to you, let us beseech the LORD our God to repair the breaches of our brethren who reside in all towns of Israel, and settle with them priests and Levites in their cities and suburbs;

13:3  and let us bring back the ark of our God to us; for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul.'

1Chr13:4  And the entire multitude responded that it should be done. For the word had pleased all the people.

3  So that they may gather themselves and come to us, and pray before the LORD our God and beseech him because of our sins; for we did not pray before him in the days of Saul.

13:4  And all the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

1Chr13:5  Therefore, David gathered all of Israel, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, so as to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

4  And all the assemblies said that they would do so.

13:5  So David assembled all Israel together, from Shihor the brook of Egypt even unto the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

1Chr13:6  And David ascended with all the men of Israel to the hill of Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, so that he might bring from there the ark of the Lord God, sitting upon the Cherubim, where his name is invoked.

13:6  And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, YHWH that sitteth upon the cherubim, whereon is called the Name.

1Chr13:7  And they placed the ark of God upon a new cart from the house of Abinadab. Then Uzzah and his brother drove the cart.

13:7  And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

1Chr13:8  Now David and all of Israel were playing before God, with all of their ability, in songs, and with harps, and psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets.

7  And they placed the ark of the LORD in a new cart, and carried it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and his brothers drove the cart.

13:8  And David and all Israel played before God with all their might; even with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

1Chr13:9  And when they had arrived at the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand, so that he might support the ark. For indeed, the ox being wanton had caused it to incline a little.

13:9  And when they came unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

9  And they came as far as the threshing-floor: and Oza put forth his hand to hold the ark, because the bullock moved it from its place.

1Chr13:10  And so the Lord became angry against Uzzah. And he struck him down because he had touched the ark. And he died there before the Lord.

13:10  And the anger of YHWH was kindled against Uzza, and He smote him, because he put forth his hand to the ark; and there he died before God.

1Chr13:11  And David was greatly saddened because the Lord had divided Uzzah. And he called that place ‘the Division of Uzzah,’ even to the present day.

13:11  And David was displeased, because YHWH had broken forth upon Uzza; and that place was called Perez-uzza unto this day.

11  And David was dispirited, because the Lord had made a breach on Oza: and he called that place the Breach of Oza until this day.

1Chr13:12  And then he feared God, at that time, saying: “How will I be able to bring in the ark of God to myself?”

13:12  And David was afraid of God that day, saying: 'How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?'

1Chr13:13  And for this reason, he did not bring it to himself, that is, into the City of David. Instead, he turned aside to the house of Obededom, the Gittite.

13:13  So David removed not the ark unto him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

13  So David brought not the ark home to himself into the city of David, but he turned it aside into the house of Abeddara the Gethite.

1Chr13:14  Therefore, the ark of God dwelt in the house of Obededom for three months. And the Lord blessed his house and all that he had.

13:14  And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months; and YHWH blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.

1Chr14:1  Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar wood, and artisans of walls and of wood, so that they might build a house for him.

14:1  And Huram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

1Chr14:2  And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom had been lifted up over his people Israel.

14:2  And David perceived that YHWH had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was exalted exceedingly, for His people Israel's sake.

2  And David knew that the Lord had designed him to be king over Israel; because his kingdom was highly exalted, on account of his people Israel.

1Chr14:3  Also, David took other wives in Jerusalem. And he conceived sons and daughters.

14:3  And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begot more sons and daughters.

1Chr14:4  And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon,

1Chr14:8  Then, hearing that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, all the Philistines ascended so that they might seek him. But when David had heard of it, he went out to meet them.

14:8  And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out to meet them.

1Chr14:9  Now the Philistines, arriving, spread out in the Valley of the Rephaim.

14:9  Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

9  And the Philistines came and assembled together in the giants’ valley.

1Chr14:10  And so David consulted the Lord, saying, “Shall I ascend to the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Ascend, and I will deliver them into your hand.”

14:10  And David inquired of God, saying: 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt Thou deliver them into my hand?' And YHWH said unto him: 'Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand.'

1Chr14:11  And when they had ascended to Baal-perazim, David struck them there, and he said: “God has divided my enemies by my hand, just as waters are divided.” And therefore the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.

14:11  So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said: 'God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters.' Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

1Chr14:12  And they left behind their gods in that place, and so David ordered them to be burned.

11  So they came up to the valley of Toretha, and David smote them there. Then David said. The LORD has broken in upon my enemies before me like the breaking forth of waters; therefore they called the name of that place the valley of Toretha.

14:12  And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.

1Chr14:13  And then, at another time, the Philistines invaded, and they spread out in the valley.

12  And when they had left their idols there, David gave a commandment to his mighty men, saying. Burn them with fire and scatter their ashes to the wind.

14:13  And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

1Chr14:14  And again, David consulted God. And God said to him: “You shall not ascend after them. Draw away from them. And you shall come against them opposite the balsam trees.

14:14  And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him: 'Thou shalt not go up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees.

1Chr14:15  And when you hear a sound approaching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go forth to war. For God has gone forth before you, so that he may strike down the army of the Philistines.”

14  Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said to him, You shall not go up after them; but turn away from them, and go attack them from the front.

14:15  And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.'

1Chr14:16  Therefore, David did just as God had instructed him. And he struck down the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon as far as Gazera.

14:16  And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

16  And he did as God commanded him: and he smote the army of the Philistines from Gabaon to Gazera.

1Chr14:17  And the name of David became well-known in all the regions. And the Lord placed the fear of him over all the nations.

14:17  And the fame of David went out into all lands; and YHWH brought the fear of him upon all nations.

1Chr15:1  Also, he made houses for himself in the City of David. And built a place for the ark of God, and he set up a tent for it.

15:1  And David made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

1Chr15:2  Then David said: “It is illicit for anyone to carry the ark of God except the Levites, whom the Lord chose to carry it and to minister to himself, even unto eternity.”

1  AND David built citadels for himself in the city of David, and also built a place for the ark of the LORD and for the instruments of the tabernacle.

15:2  Then David said: 'None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for them hath YHWH chosen to carry the ark of the YHWH, and to minister unto Him for ever.'

1Chr15:3  And he gathered all of Israel in Jerusalem, so that the ark of God might be brought into its place, which he had prepared for it.

2  Then David commanded the Levites to carry the ark of the LORD and the instruments of the tabernacle; for the Levites the LORD had chosen to minister and to carry the ark of the LORD, and to look after it for ever.

15:3  And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of YHWH unto its place, which he had prepared for it.

1Chr15:4  Certainly, there were both the sons of Aaron and the Levites

3  And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place which he had built for it.

1Chr15:9  From the sons of Hebron: Eliel was the leader, and his brothers were eighty.

15:9  of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore;

1Chr15:10  From the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab was the leader, and his brothers were one hundred twelve.

1Chr15:11  And David summoned the priests, Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.

15:11  And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,

1Chr15:12  And he said to them: “You who are the leaders of the Levitical families, be sanctified with your brothers, and bring the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place that has been prepared for it.

15:12  and said unto them: 'Ye are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of YHWH, the God of Israel, unto the place that I have prepared for it.

12  and said to them, Ye are the heads of the families of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, and ye shall carry up the ark of the God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.

1Chr15:13  Otherwise, as it was before, when the Lord struck us because you were not present, so also it might be now, if we do what is illicit.”

15:13  For because ye bore it not at the first, YHWH our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought Him not according to the ordinance.'

1Chr15:14  Therefore, the priests and the Levites were sanctified, so that they might carry the ark of the Lord God of Israel.

13  So that the LORD our God may not smite us because we did not seek him after the due order.

15:14  So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of YHWH, the God of Israel.

1Chr15:15  And the sons of Levi took the ark of God, just as Moses had instructed, in accord with the word of the Lord, upon their shoulders by the bars.

15:15  And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God upon their shoulders with the bars thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of YHWH.

15  And the sons of the Levites took the ark of God, (as Moses commanded by the word of God according to the scripture) upon their shoulders with staves.

1Chr15:16  And David spoke to the leaders of the Levites, so that they might appoint, from their brothers, singers with musical instruments, specifically, psalteries, and harps, and cymbals, so that a joyful noise might resound on high.

15:16  And David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren the singers, with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy.

16  And David said to the chiefs of the Levites, Set your brethren the singers with musical instruments, lutes, harps, and cymbals, to sound aloud with a voice of joy.

1Chr15:17  And they appointed from the Levites: Heman, the son of Joel; and from his brothers, Asaph, the son of Berechiah; and truly, from their brothers, the sons of Merari: Ethan, the son of Kushaiah.

15:17  So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

1Chr15:18  And with them were their brothers in the second rank: Zechariah, and Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jahiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, who were gatekeepers.

15:18  and with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphalehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.

1Chr15:19  Now the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were sounding out with cymbals of brass.

15:19  So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan ,were appointed , with cymbals of brass to sound aloud;

1Chr15:20  And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah were singing mysteries with the psalteries.

19  Now these were all those who stood by the gates and sang: Heman, Asaph, and Ethan.

15:20  and Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries set to Alamoth;

1Chr15:21  Then Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah and Obededom, and Jeiel and Azaziah were singing a song of victory with the harps, for the octave.

15:21  and Mattithiah, and Eliphalehu, and Mikneiahu, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith, to lead.

1Chr15:22  Now Chenaniah, the leader of the Levites, was foremost over the prophecies, in order to mark out in advance the melodies. For indeed, he was very skillful.

21  And those who sang songs: Mattitha, Mikiaho, Ober-edom, Uzzael, and Uzzanaiah; these played with harps every day at three o'clock and at nine o'clock.

15:22  And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the song; he was master in the song, because he was skilful.

1Chr15:23  And Berechiah and Elkanah were porters of the ark.

22  And Benaiah, chief of the Levites, played every day in the booth, for they had prepared a place for him.

15:23  And Berechiah and Elkanah were door-keepers for the ark.

1Chr15:24  And the priests, Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, were sounding the trumpets before the ark of God. And Obededom and Jehiah were porters of the ark.

15:24  And Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obed-edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

24  And Somnia, and Josaphat, and Nathanael, and Amasai, and Zacharia, and Banaea, and Eliezer, the priests, were sounding with trumpets before the ark of God: and Abdedom and Jeia were door-keepers of the ark of God.

1Chr15:25  Therefore, David, and all those greater by birth of Israel, and the tribunes, went to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obededom with rejoicing.

15:25  So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of YHWH out of the house of Obed-edom with joy.

1Chr15:26  And when God had assisted the Levites, who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they immolated seven bulls and seven rams.

15:26  And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bore the ark of the covenant of YHWH, that they sacrificed seven bullocks and seven rams.

1Chr15:27  Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah, the leader of the prophecy among the singers. But David was also clothed with a linen ephod.

15:27  And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bore the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the singers in the song; and David had upon him an ephod of linen.

1Chr15:28  And all of Israel were leading back the ark of the covenant of the Lord with jubilation, sounding out with the noise of horns, and trumpets, and cymbals, and psalteries, and harps.

15:28  Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of YHWH with shouting, and with sound of the horn, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with psalteries and harps.

1Chr15:29  And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord had arrived in the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, gazing through a window, saw king David dancing and playing, and she despised him in her heart.

15:29  And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of YHWH came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and making merry; and she despised him in her heart.

29  And the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived, and came to the city of David; and Melchol the daughter of Saul looked down through the window, and saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

1Chr16:1  And so they took the ark of God, and they set it in the midst of the tabernacle, which David had pitched for it. And they offered holocausts and peace offerings before God.

16:1  And they brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt- offerings and peace-offerings before God.

1Chr16:3  And he divided to every single one, from men even to women, a twist of bread, and a piece of roasted beef, and fine wheat flour fried with oil.

16:3  And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a cake made in a pan, and a sweet cake.

1Chr16:4  And he appointed some from the Levites who would minister before the ark of the Lord, and commemorate his works, and glorify and praise the Lord, the God of Israel.

3  And he distributed to all the people of Israel, both men and women and young men and the little ones, to every one a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a fine white loaf. Then all the people went away, every one to his own house.

16:4  And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of YHWH, and to celebrate and to thank and praise the YHWH, the God of Israel

1Chr16:5  Asaph was the leader, and second to him was Zechariah. In addition, there were Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom. And Jeiel was over the instruments of the psaltery and the harps. But Asaph sounded out with the cymbals.

16:5  Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with psalteries and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud;

5  Asaph was the chief, and next to him Zacharias, Jeiel, Semiramoth, and Jeiel, Mattathias, Eliab, and Banaeas, and Abdedom: and Jeiel sounding with musical instruments, lutes and harps, and Asaph with cymbals

1Chr16:6  Truly, the priests, Benaiah and Jahaziel, were to sound the trumpet continually before the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

1Chr16:7  In that day, David made Asaph the leader, in order to confess to the Lord with his brothers

6  These were all the priests who sounded with trumpets continually before the ark of the LORD.

16:7  Then on that day did David first ordain to give thanks unto YHWH, by the hand of Asaph and his brethren.

1Chr16:8  “Confess to the Lord, and invoke his name. Make known his endeavors among the peoples.

7  Then on that day David delivered this psalm, both he and the chiefs of all the priests and the Levites to praise the LORD, in the company of Asaph and his brethren. These are the headings of the songs which David sang on that day before the ark of the LORD

16:8  O give thanks unto YHWH, call upon His name; make known His doings among the peoples.

1Chr16:9  Sing to him, and sing psalms to him, and describe all his miracles.

8  Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples.

16:9  Sing unto Him, sing praises unto Him; speak ye of all His marvellous works.

9  Sing songs to him, and sing hymns to him, relate to all people his wonderful deeds, which the Lord has wrought.

1Chr16:10  Praise his holy name! Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

16:10  Glory ye in His holy name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek YHWH.

10  Praise his holy name, the heart that seeks his pleasure shall rejoice.

1Chr16:11  Seek the Lord and his virtue. Seek his face always.

16:11  Seek ye YHWH and His strength; seek His face continually.

1Chr16:12  Remember his miracles, which he has accomplished, his signs, and the judgments of his mouth.

11  Seek the LORD and his strength, pray before him continually.

16:12  Remember His marvellous works that He hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth;

1Chr16:13  O offspring of Israel, his servants! O sons of Jacob, his elect!

16:13  O ye seed of Israel His servant, ye children of Jacob, His chosen ones.

1Chr16:14  He is the Lord our God. His judgments are throughout all the earth.

16:14  He is YHWH our God; His judgments are in all the earth.

1Chr16:15  Remember forever his covenant, the word that he instructed unto a thousand generations,

16:15  Remember His covenant for ever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations;

1Chr16:16  the covenant that he formed with Abraham, and his oath with Isaac.

15  Be mindful of his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

16:16  The covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath unto Isaac;

1Chr16:17  And he appointed the same to Jacob as a precept, and to Israel as an everlasting pact,

16:17  And He established it unto Jacob for a statute, to Israel for an everlasting covenant;

1Chr16:18  saying: ‘To you, I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.’

16:18  Saying: 'Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.'

1Chr16:19  At that time, they were small in number, they were few and were settlers there.

16:19  When ye were but a few men in number, yea, very few, and sojourners in it,

19  when they were few in number, when they were but little, and dwelt as strangers in it;

1Chr16:20  And they passed through, from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.

16:20  And when they went about from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people,

1Chr16:21  He did not permit anyone to falsely accuse them. Instead, he reproved kings on their behalf

16:21  He suffered no man to do them wrong, yea, for their sake He reproved kings

1Chr16:22  ‘Do not touch my Christ. And do not malign my prophets.’

21  He permitted not the rulers to harm you, yea, he chastened kings for your sakes,

16:22  'Touch not Mine anointed ones, and do My prophets no harm.'

22  saying, Touch not my anointed ones, and deal not wrongfully with my prophets.

1Chr16:23  Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Announce his salvation, from day to day.

16:23  Sing unto YHWH, all the earth; proclaim His salvation from day to day.

1Chr16:24  Describe his glory among the Gentiles, his miracles among all the peoples.

23  Sing to the LORD, all the earth; show forth from day to day his salvation.

16:24  Declare His glory among the nations, His marvellous works among all the peoples.

1Chr16:25  For the Lord is great and exceedingly praiseworthy. And he is terrible, above all gods.

16:25  For great is YHWH, and highly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods.

1Chr16:26  For all the gods of the peoples are idols. But the Lord made the heavens.

16:26  For all the gods of the peoples are things of nought; but YHWH made the heavens.

1Chr16:27  Confession and magnificence are before him. Strength and gladness are in his place.

16:27  Honour and majesty are before Him; strength and gladness are in His place.

27  Glory and praise are in his presence; strength and rejoicing are in his place.

1Chr16:28  Bring to the Lord, O families of the peoples, bring to the Lord glory and dominion.

16:28  Ascribe unto YHWH, ye kindreds of the peoples, ascribe unto the YHWH glory and strength.

28  Give to the Lord, ye families of the nations, give to the Lord glory and strength.

1Chr16:29  Give glory to the Lord, to his name. Lift up sacrifice, and approach before his sight. And adore the Lord in holy attire.

16:29  Ascribe unto YHWH the glory due unto His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the YHWH in the beauty of holiness.

1Chr16:30  Let all the earth be moved before his face. For he founded the globe immoveable.

29  Give thanks to the LORD with the honor due to his name; bring offerings, and give thanks before him with the prayer of your mouth; worship the LORD with holy songs.

16:30  Tremble before Him, all the earth; the world also is established that it cannot be moved.

30  Let the whole earth fear before him; let the earth be established, and not be moved.

1Chr16:31  Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth exult. And let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord has reigned.’

16:31  Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let them say among the nations: 'YHWH reigneth.'

1Chr16:32  Let the sea roar, with all its plenitude. Let the fields exult, with all that is in them.

16:32  Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; let the field exult, and all that is therein;

32  The sea with its fullness shall resound and the tree of the field, and all things in it.

1Chr16:33  Then the trees of the forest will give praise before the Lord. For he comes to judge the earth.

16:33  Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy, before YHWH, for He is come to judge the earth.

1Chr16:34  Confess to the Lord, for he is good. For his mercy is eternal.

33  Then shall the trees of the forest sing praises at the presence of the LORD because he comes to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with justice, and reprove the peoples in faithfulness;

16:34  O give thanks unto YHWH; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever.

34  Give thanks to the Lord, for it is good, for his mercy is for ever.

1Chr16:35  And say: ‘Save us, O God our savior! And gather us together, and rescue us from the nations, so that we may confess to your holy name, and may exult in your songs.

16:35  And say ye: 'Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks unto Thy holy name, that we may triumph in Thy praise.'

1Chr16:36  Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from eternity to eternity.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen,’ and let them sing a hymn to the Lord.”

35  Save us, O LORD, save us and gather us together, and bring us back from among the nations, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praises.

16:36  Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. And all the people said: 'Amen,' and praised the YHWH.

36  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting and to everlasting: And all the people shall say, Amen. So they praised the Lord.

1Chr16:37  And so, there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, he left Asaph and his brothers, so that they might minister in the sight of the ark continually, throughout each day, and in their turns.

16:37  So he left there, before the ark of the covenant of YHWH, Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required;

37  And they left there Asaph and his brethren before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to minister before the ark continually, according to the service of each day: from day to day.

1Chr16:38  Now Obededom and his brothers were sixty-eight. And he appointed Obededom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah to be porters.

16:38  and Obed-edom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obed-edom also the son of Jedithun and Hosah to be door-keepers;

38  And Abdedom and his brethren were sixty and eight; and Abdedom the son of Idithun, and Osa, were to be door-keepers.

1Chr16:39  But Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, were before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place, which was in Gibeon,

16:39  and Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of YHWH in the high place that was at Gibeon,

39  And they appointed Sadoc the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place in Gabaon,

1Chr16:40  so that they could offer holocausts to the Lord upon the altar of holocausts continually, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the law of the Lord, which he instructed to Israel.

16:40  to offer burnt-offerings unto YHWH upon the altar of burnt-offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in the Law of the YHWH, which He commanded unto Israel;

1Chr16:41  And after him, Heman, and Jeduthun, and the remainder of the elect, each one by his name, were appointed to confess to the Lord: “For his mercy endures forever.”

40  To offer burnt offerings to the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he gave by the hand of Moses to teach to the children of Israel;

16:41  and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to YHWH, because His mercy endureth for ever;

1Chr16:42  Also Heman and Jeduthun sounded the trumpet, and they played upon the cymbals, and upon every kind of musical instrument, in order to sing praises to God. But the sons of Jeduthun he made to be porters.

41  And these are the names of the men who stood up singing praises: Haman, Ariton, and the rest of the righteous men whose names were not expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD because his mercy endures for ever;

16:42  and with them Heman and Jeduthun, to sound aloud with trumpets and cymbals, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.

1Chr16:43  And all the people returned to their houses, and David also, so that he might bless his own house too.

42  And these righteous men gave thanks not with the instruments of singing, neither with the tambourines nor with the timbrels nor with the curved trumpets nor with the straight trumpets nor with the cymbals, but with a pleasant mouth and with pure and perfect prayer and with righteousness and with purity to the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel.

16:43  And all the people departed every man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.

1Chr17:1  Now when David was living in his house, he said to the prophet Nathan: “Behold, I live in a house of cedar. But the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent skins.”

43  Then David dismissed the people, and they went every man to his own house; and David returned to bless his household.

17:1  And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet: 'Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of YHWH dwelleth under curtains.'

1Chr17:2  And Nathan said to David: “Do all that is in your heart. For God is with you.”

1  NOW it came to pass when David dwelt in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house which is covered with the beams of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is resting in the midst of the tent of hair of goats.

17:2  And Nathan said unto David: 'Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.'

1Chr17:3  And yet, that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying

2  Then Nathan said to David, Go and do all that is in your heart.

17:3  And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying

1Chr17:4  “Go, and speak to my servant David: Thus says the Lord: You shall not build a house for me as a dwelling place.

17:4  'Go and tell David My servant: Thus saith YHWH: Thou shalt not build Me a house to dwell in;

4  Go and say to David my servant, Thus said the Lord, Thou shalt not build me a house for me to dwell in it.

1Chr17:5  For I have not stayed in a house from the time when I led out Israel, even to this day. Instead, I have been continually changing places, in a tabernacle and tent,

17:5  for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another .

1Chr17:6  dwelling with all of Israel. When did I ever speak to any one at all, among the judges of Israel whom I placed in charge so that they might pasture my people, saying: ‘Why have you not built a house of cedar for me?’

17:6  In all places wherein I have walked among all Israel, spoke I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed My people, saying: Why have ye not built Me a house of cedar?

1Chr17:7  And so, now you shall say this to my servant David: Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you when you were following the flock in the pastures, so that you would be the leader of my people Israel.

6  Behold, wherever I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word to any of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to judge my people Israel, saying, Why have you not built me a house which is covered with cedars?

17:7  Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto My servant David: Thus saith YHWH of hosts: I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over My people Israel;

7  And now thus shalt thou say to my servant David, Thus saith the Lord Almighty, I took thee from the sheepfold, from following the flocks, to be a ruler over my people Israel

1Chr17:8  And I have been with you wherever you have gone. And I have slain all your enemies before you, and I have made a name for you like one of the great ones who are celebrated upon the earth.

17:8  and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

1Chr17:9  And I have given a place to my people Israel. They shall be planted, and they shall live in it, and they shall no longer be moved. Neither shall the sons of iniquity wear them away, as in the beginning,

17:9  And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disquieted no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

1Chr17:10  from the days when I gave judges to my people Israel, and I humbled all your enemies. Therefore, I announce to you that the Lord will build a house for you.

9  I will also appoint a place for my people Israel and will cause them to settle, and they shall dwell in their place and shall be moved no more; neither shall the wicked men carry them captive any more, as formerly.

17:10  even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that YHWH will build thee a house.

1Chr17:11  And when you will have completed your days, so that you go to your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall be from your sons. And I will establish his kingdom.

10  And since the day that I made you a judge over my people Israel, I have given you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD has declared to you that the kingdom is established for ever.

17:11  And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

1Chr17:12  He shall build a house for me, and I will make firm his throne, even unto eternity.

17:12  He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

1Chr17:13  I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. And I will not take away my mercy from him, as I took it away from the one who was before you.

17:13  I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

1Chr17:14  And I will station him in my house and in my kingdom, even forever. And his throne will be very firm, in perpetuity.”

13  I will be his father and he shall be my son; and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from Saul, who was before you.

17:14  but I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.'

14  And I will establish him in my house and in his kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be set up for ever.

1Chr17:15  According to all these words, and according to this entire vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

1Chr17:16  And when king David had departed, and had sat down before the Lord, he said: “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you would grant such things to me?

17:16  Then David the king went in, and sat before YHWH; and he said: 'Who am I, O YHWH God, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me thus far?

16  And king David came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast loved me for ever?

1Chr17:17  But even this has seemed little in your sight, and therefore you have also spoken about the house of your servant even for the future. And you have made me a spectacle above all men, O Lord God.

17:17  And this was a small thing in Thine eyes, O God; but Thou hast spoken of Thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me after the manner of a man of high degree, O YHWH God.

17  And these things were little in thy sight, O God: thou hast also spoken concerning the house of thy servant for a long time to come, and thou hast looked upon me as a man looks upon his fellow, and hast exalted me, O Lord God.

1Chr17:18  What more can David add, since you have so glorified your servant, and have known him?

17:18  What can David say yet more unto Thee concerning the honour which is done to Thy servant? for Thou knowest Thy servant.

17:19  O YHWH, for Thy servant's sake, and according to Thine own heart, hast Thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

19  And thou hast wrought all this greatness according to thine heart.

1Chr17:20  O Lord, there is no one like you. And there is no other God apart from you, out of all whom we have heard about with our ears.

17:20  O YHWH, there is none like Thee, neither is there any God beside Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

1Chr17:21  For what other single nation upon earth is like your people Israel, to whom God reached out, so that he might free them, and might make a people for himself, and by his greatness and terribleness cast out the nations before the face of those whom he had freed from Egypt?

17:21  And who is like Thy people Israel, a nation one in the earth, whom God went to redeem unto Himself for a people, to make Thee a name by great and tremendous things, in driving out nations from before Thy people, whom Thou didst redeem out of Egypt.

1Chr17:22  And you have set your people Israel to be your people, even unto eternity. And you, O Lord, have become their God.

21  And what other nation on earth is united like thy people Israel? For thou didst reveal thyself from heaven and saved them, and for their sakes thou didst perform great and terrible wonders and brought severe plagues upon the Egyptians until thou didst bring them out from among them.

17:22  For Thy people Israel didst Thou make Thine own people for ever; and Thou, YHWH, becamest their God.

22  And thou hast appointed thy people Israel as a people to thyself for ever; and thou, Lord, didst become a God to them.

1Chr17:23  Now therefore, O Lord, let the word that you have spoken to your servant, and over his house, be confirmed in perpetuity, and do just as you have spoken.

17:23  And now, O YHWH, let the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as Thou hast spoken.

1Chr17:24  And may your name remain and be magnified even for all time. And let it be said: ‘The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel. And the house of his servant David remains forever before him.’

23  Therefore now, O LORD, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

17:24  Yea, let it be established, and let Thy name be magnified for ever, that it may be said: YHWH of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel; and the house of David Thy servant shall be established before Thee.

24  And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, men saying, Lord, Lord, Almighty God of Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.

1Chr17:25  For you, O Lord my God, have revealed to the ear of your servant that you will build a house for him. And therefore your servant has found faith so that he might pray before you.

17:25  For Thou, O my God, hast revealed to Thy servant that Thou wilt build him a house; therefore hath Thy servant taken heart to pray before Thee.

1Chr17:26  Now then, O Lord, you are God. And you have spoken to your servant such great benefits.

17:26  And now, O YHWH, Thou alone art God, and hast promised this good thing unto Thy servant;

1Chr17:27  And you have begun to bless the house of your servant, so that it may be always before you. For since it is you who is blessing, O Lord, it shall be blessed forever.”

17:27  and now it hath pleased Thee to bless the house of Thy servant, that it may continue for ever before Thee; for Thou, O YHWH, hast blessed, and so let Thy servant be blessed for ever.'

1Chr18:1  Now after these things, it happened that David struck the Philistines, and he humbled them, and he took Gath and her daughters from the hand of the Philistines.

27  Now therefore reveal thyself to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever; for thou, O LORD God, hast spoken, and of thy blessing shall all the houses of righteous men be blessed for ever.

18:1  And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

1Chr18:2  And he struck Moab. And the Moabites became the servants of David, offering gifts to him.

18:2  And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David, and brought presents.

1Chr18:3  In that time, David also struck Hadadezer, the king of Zobah, in the region of Hamath, when he went forth so that he might extend his dominion as far as the river Euphrates.

2  And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants and brought tribute.And David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me. So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.

18:3  And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah by Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion at the river Euphrates.

1Chr18:4  Then David seized one thousand of his four-horse chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand men on foot. And he hamstrung all the chariot horses, except for one hundred four-horse chariots, which he reserved for himself.

3  Then David slew Hadarezer the king of Nisibin, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, Do you think that David really did honor your father when he was alive and that he has truly sent comforters to you? It is for the purpose of spying the city and knowing the entrances and the exits that David has sent his servants to us.

18:4  And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.

1Chr18:5  Then the Syrians of Damascus also arrived, so that they might offer assistance to Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. And so, David then struck of them twenty-two thousand men.

4  And David took from him a thousand chariots and seven thousand horsemen, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them a hundred chariots.So Hanun took David's servants and shaved half of their beards and half of their heads and cut off their garments in the midst as far as their buttocks, and sent them away.

18:5  And when the Arameans of Damascus came to succour Hadarezer king of Zobah, David smote of the Arameans two and twenty thousand men.

1Chr18:6  And he stationed soldiers in Damascus, so that Syria also would serve him, and would offer gifts. And the Lord assisted him in all the things to which he went forth.

5  And when the Edomites and the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Nisibin, David slew of the Edomites twenty-two thousand men.And when they had told David, he sent men to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said to them, Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.

18:6  Then David put garrisons in Aram Damascus; and the Arameans became servants to David, and brought presents. And YHWH gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

1Chr18:7  Also, David took the golden quivers, which the servants of Hadadezer had, and he brought them to Jerusalem.

6  Then David appointed governors in Damascus, and the Arameans became David's servants and brought tribute. Thus the LORD preserved David wheresoever he went.And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David's servants, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Aram-nahrin, from Haran, from Nisibin, and from Edom.

18:7  And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

1Chr18:8  In addition, from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, he brought very much brass, from which Solomon made the sea of brass, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

7  And David took the shields of gold that were hanging on the horses of the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.So they hired thirty-two thousand horsemen, and the king of Haran, the king of Edom, the king of Aram-nahrin, and the king of Nisibin, and all their armies; who came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities and came to battle.

18:8  And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

1Chr18:9  Now when Toi, the king of Hamath, had heard this, specifically that David had struck the entire army of Hadadezer, the king of Zobah,

8  Likewise from Tibhath and from Berothi, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars of brass and the oxen of brass and the vessels of brass in abundance.And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.

18:9  And when Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah,

1Chr18:10  he sent his son Hadoram to king David so that he might petition peace from him, and so that he might congratulate him that he had struck and defeated Hadadezer. For indeed, Toi was an adversary to Hadadezer.

9  Now Pul, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten the whole army of Hadarezer, king of Nisibin;And the children of Ammon came out and set the battle in array before the gate of the city; and the kings who had come to them and their armies were encamping by themselves in the fields.

18:10  he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to salute him, and to bless him--because he had fought against Hadarezer and smitten him; for Hadarezer had wars with Tou--and he had with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

10  And he sent Jehoram his son to David to inquire of his welfare and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadarezer and killed him (for Hadarezer was a valiant warrior) and Jehoram had with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.Now when Joab saw that the battle was fierce against him in front and in the rear, he chose some of all the valiant men of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.

18:11  These also did king David dedicate unto YHWH, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

11  And all the golden and silver and brazen vessels, even these king David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and the gold which he took from all the nations; from Idumaea, and Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalec.

11  Some of these also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and the gold that he had captured from all the nations which he had subdued: from the Edomites, from the Moabites, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites.And the rest of the people he placed under the command of Abishai his brother, and they pitched battle against the children of Ammon.

18:12  Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah smote of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt eighteen thousand.

12  Moreover Abishai the son of Zuriah brother of Joab slew the Edomites in the valley of salt, eighteen thousand men.And he said to him, If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall come to my help; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come to help you.

18:13  And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. And YHWH gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

1Chr18:13  And he stationed a garrison in Edom, so that Idumea would serve David. And the Lord saved David in all the things to which he went forth.

13  And David appointed governors over the Edomites, and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David wherever he went.Be of good courage, and let us be strong for the sake of our people and for the sake of the cities of our God; and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

18:14  And David reigned over all Israel; and he executed justice and righteousness unto all his people.

15  And Joab the son of Zuriah was over all the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder.And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem.

18:16  And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Shavsha was scribe;

16  And Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelek the son of Abiathar were the priests; and Seriah was scribe;And when the Arameans saw that they had been defeated before Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the river; and they came to Hilam, and Shobach the commander of the army of Hadarezer went before them.

18:17  and Beniah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.

1Chr18:17  Also, Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over the legions of the Cherethites and Pelethites. But the sons of David were first at the hand of the king.

17  And Benaiah the son of Jehoiadah was over the archers and the slingers; and the sons of David were princes of the realm.And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel and came against them, and set the battle in array against the Arameans and fought with them.

19:1  And it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

1  Now it happened that Nahash, the king of the sons of Ammon, died, and his son reigned in his place.

19:2  And David said: 'l will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.' So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

2  And David said, I will act kindly toward Anan the son of Naas, as his father acted kindly towards me. And David sent messengers to condole with him on the death of his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Anan, to comfort him.

2  And David said: “I will act with mercy toward Hanun, the son of Nahash. For his father was gracious to me.” And so David sent messengers to console him over the death of his father. But when they had reached the land of the sons of Ammon, so that they might console Hanun,

19:3  But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?'

3  the leaders of the sons of Ammon said to Hanun: “Do you think that perhaps David has sent them to console you in order to honor your father? Have you not noticed that his servants came to you so that they might explore, and investigate, and examine your land?”

19:4  So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their hips, and sent them away.

4  And Anan took the servants of David, and shaved them, and cut off the half of their garments as far as their tunic, and sent them away.

4  And so Hanun shaved the heads and beards of the servants of David, and he cut away their tunics from the buttocks to the feet, and he sent them away.

19:5  Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'

5  And there came men to report to David concerning the men: and he sent to meet them, for they were greatly disgraced: and the king said, Dwell in Jericho until your beards have grown, and return.

5  And when they had gone, and had sent word to David, (for they had suffered a great disgrace,) he sent to meet them, and he instructed them that they should remain at Jericho until their beards grew, and then they should return.

19:6  And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Aram-naharaim, and out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.

6  And the children of Ammon saw that the people of David were ashamed, and Anan and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen out of Syria of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria Maacha, and from Sobal.

6  Then, when the sons of Ammon realized that they had committed an injury against David, both Hanun and the rest of the people sent one thousand talents of silver, so that they might hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, and from Syrian Maacah, and from Zobah.

19:7  So they hired them thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people; who came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

7  And they hired for themselves two and thirty thousand chariots, and the king of Maacha and his people; and they came and encamped before Medaba: and the children of Ammon assembled out of their cities, and came to fight.

7  And they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah with his people. When these had arrived, they made camp in the region opposite Medeba. Also, the sons of Ammon, gathering from their cities, went to war.

19:8  And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

8  And David heard, and sent Joab and all the host of mighty men.

19:9  And the children of Ammon came out and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

9  And the sons of Ammon, going out, set up a battle line before the gate of the city. But the kings who had come to their aid stood separately in the field.

19:10  Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Arameans.

10  And Joab saw that they were fronting him to fight against him before and behind, and he chose some out of all the young men of Israel, and they set themselves in array against the Syrian.

10  And so Joab, understanding the war to be set facing him and behind his back, chose the strongest men from all of Israel, and he went out against the Syrians.

19:11  And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

11  But the remaining portion of the people he placed under the hand of his brother Abishai. And they went out against the sons of Ammon.

19:12  And he said: 'If the Arameans be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

12  And he said, If the Syrian should prevail against me, then shalt thou deliver me: and if the children of Ammon should prevail against thee, then will I deliver thee.

12  And he said: “If the Syrians prevail over me, then you shall be a help to me. But if the sons of Ammon prevail over you, I will be a safeguard for you.

19:13  Be of good courage, and let us prove strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and YHWH do that which seemeth Him good.'

13  Be strengthened, and let us act manfully on behalf of our people, and on behalf of the cities of our God. And the Lord will do what is good in his own sight.”

19:14  So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle to meet the Arameans; and they fled before him.

14  Therefore, Joab, and the people who were with him, went out to battle against the Syrians. And he put them to flight.

19:15  And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

15  And the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians fled, and they also fled from before Abesai, and from before Joab his brother, and they came to the city: and Joab came to Jerusalem.

15  Then the sons of Ammon, seeing that the Syrians had fled, also themselves fled from Abishai, his brother, and they entered into the city. And now Joab returned to Jerusalem.

19:16  And when the Arameans saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and brought out the Arameans that were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.

16  And the Syrian saw that Israel had defeated him, and he sent messengers, and they brought out the Syrians from beyond the river; and Sophath the commander-in-chief of the forces of Adraazar was before them.

16  But the Syrians, seeing that they had fallen before Israel, sent messengers, and they brought the Syrians who were across the river. And Shophach, the leader of the military of Hadadezer, was their commander.

19:17  And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Arameans, they fought with him.

17  When this had been reported to David, he gathered together all of Israel, and he crossed the Jordan. And he rushed toward them. And he set up a battle line facing them. And they fought against him.

19:18  And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

18  And the Syrians fled from before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand riders in chariots, and forty thousand infantry, and he slew Sophath the commander-in-chief of the forces.

18  But the Syrians fled from Israel. And David killed of the Syrians seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand men on foot, and Shophach, the leader of the army.

19:19  And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and served him; neither would the Arameans help the children of Ammon any more.

19  And the servants of Adraazar saw that they were defeated before Israel, and they made peace with David and served him: and the Syrians would not any more help the children of Ammon.

19  Then the servants of Hadadezer, seeing themselves to be overwhelmed by Israel, crossed over to David, and they served him. And Syria was no longer willing to offer aid to the sons of Ammon.

20:1  And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.

1  Now it happened that, after the course of a year, in the time when kings usually go forth to war, Joab gathered an army with experienced soldiers, and he laid waste to the land of the sons of Ammon. And he continued on and besieged Rabbah. But David was staying in Jerusalem when Joab struck Rabbah and destroyed it.

1  AND it came to pass that in the next year, at the time when kings go out to battle, Joab mobilized the armed forces and came and encamped against the land of the children of Ammon and took some of the towns, and came and besieged Rabbath their capital city. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab captured Rabbath and destroyed it.

20:2  And David took the crown of Malcam from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head; and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceeding much.

2  Then David took the crown of Milcom from his head, and he found in it the weight of one talent of gold, and very precious gems. And he made for himself a diadem from it. Also, he took the best spoils of the city, which were very many.

20:3  And he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus did David unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

3  Then he led away the people who were in it. And he caused plows, and sleds, and iron chariots to go over them, so much so that they were cut apart and crushed. So did David treat all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And he returned with all his people to Jerusalem.

3  And he brought out the people who were in it, and bound them with chains, iron bands, locks and fetters. And thus David did bind all of them, and did likewise to all men who were found in the cities of the children of Ammon; but he did not kill any one of them; and he brought them and settled them in the villages of the land of Israel. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

20:4  And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giants; and they were subdued.

4  After these things, a war was begun at Gezer against the Philistines, in which Sibbecai the Hushathite struck Sippai from the race of the Rephaim, and he humbled them.

20:5  And there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

5  Also, another war was undertaken against the Philistines, in which Adeodatus, a son of the forest, a Bethlehemite, struck the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the wood of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

20:6  And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand , and six on each foot ; and he also was born unto the giant.

6  Then too, another war occurred in Gath, in which there was a very tall man, having six digits, that is, all together twenty-four. This man too was born from the stock of the Rephaim.

20:7  And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.

7  He blasphemed Israel. And Jonathan, the son of Shimea, the brother of David, struck him down. These were the sons of the Rephaim in Gath, who fell by the hand of David and his servants.

7  But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.

20:8  These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

21:1  And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.

1  And the devil stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.

1  Now Satan rose up against Israel, and he incited David so that he would number Israel.

21:2  And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people: 'Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.'

2  And king David said to Joab and to the captains of the forces, Go, number Israel from Bersabee even to Dan, and bring me the account, and I shall know their number.

2  So David said to Joab the son of Zuriah and to the princes of the people, Go, number the people of Israel from Beersheba even to Dan, and come back to me, that I may know the number of the people.

21:3  And Joab said: 'YHWH make His people a hundred times so many more as they are; but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel?'

3  And Joab said, May the Lord add to his people, a hundred-fold as many as they are, and let the eyes of my lord the king see it: all are the servants of my lord. Why does my lord seek this thing? do it not, lest it become a sin to Israel.

3  And Joab said to King David, May the LORD make his people a hundred times so many more as they are, and let the eyes of my lord the king see it, for they are all his servants; why then should our lord the king require this thing?

21:4  Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

4  But the word of the king prevailed instead. And Joab went away, and he traveled around, through all of Israel. And he returned to Jerusalem.

21:5  And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword; and Judah was four hundred three-score and ten thousand men that drew sword.

5  And he gave to David the number of those whom he had surveyed. And the entire number of Israel was found to be one million and one hundred thousand men who could draw the sword; but from Judah, there were four hundred and seventy thousand men of war.

21:6  But Levi and Benjamin he did not number among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

6  But he numbered not Levi and Benjamin among them; for the word of the king was painful to Joab.

6  But the Levites, the priests, and the tribe of Benjamin were not counted among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab, and Joab was unwilling to number them.

21:7  And God was displeased with this thing; therefore He smote Israel.

7  And there was evil in the sight of the Lord respecting this thing; and he smote Israel.

7  Then God was displeased with what had been ordered, and so he struck Israel.

21:8  And David said unto God: 'I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing; but now, put away, I beseech Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.'

8  And David said to God: “I have sinned exceedingly in doing this. I beg you take away the iniquity of your servant. For I have acted unwisely.”

21:9  And YHWH spoke unto Gad, David's seer, saying

9  And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer, saying,

9  And David arose early in the morning, and the word of the LORD came to Gad, the prophet, saying,

21:10  'Go and speak unto David, saying: Thus saith YHWH: I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.'

10  “Go, and speak to David, and tell him: Thus says the Lord: I give to you the option of three things. Choose the one that you will want, and I will do it to you.”

10  Go and tell David, saying, Thus says the LORD: I offer you three disasters; choose one of them, that I may do it to you.

21:11  So Gad came to David, and said unto him: 'Thus saith YHWH: Take which thou wilt

11  And Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose for thyself,

21:12  either three years of famine; or three months to be swept away before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of YHWH, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of the YHWH destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to Him that sent me.'

21:13  And David said unto Gad: 'I am in a great strait; let me fall now into the hand of YHWH, for very great are His mercies; and let me not fall into the hand of man.'

13  And David said to Gad, They are very hard for me, even all the three: let me fall now into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are very abundant, and let me not fall by any means into the hands of man.

21:14  So YHWH sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

14  So the Lord brought pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

14  Therefore, the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel. And there fell from Israel seventy thousand men.

21:15  And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was about to destroy, YHWH beheld, and He repented Him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel: 'It is enough; now stay thy hand.' And the angel of the YHWH was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

15  Also, he sent an Angel to Jerusalem, so that he might strike it. And while he was striking, the Lord saw and took pity over the magnitude of the harm. And he commanded the Angel who was striking: “It is enough. Now let your hand cease.” And the Angel of the Lord was standing beside the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

15  And the LORD sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying it, the LORD saw and considered it and averted the disaster, and said to the angel that destroyed, You have destroyed a great many, stay now your hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshing floor of Aran the Jebusite.

21:16  And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of YHWH standing between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

16  And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the Angel of the Lord, standing between heaven and earth with a drawn sword in his hand, turned toward Jerusalem. And both he and those greater by birth, being clothed in haircloth, fell prone upon the ground.

21:17  And David said unto God: 'Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let Thy hand, I pray Thee, O YHWH my God, be against me, and against my father's house; but not against Thy people, that they should be plagued.'

17  And David said to God, Was it not I that gave orders to number the people? and I am the guilty one; I have greatly sinned: but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord God, let thy hand be upon me, and upon my father’s house, and not on thy people for destruction, O Lord!

17  And David said to God: “Am I not the one who ordered that the people be numbered? It is I who sinned; it is I who did evil. This flock, what does it deserve? O Lord my God, I beg you to let your hand be turned against me and against the house of my father. But let not your people be struck down.”

21:18  Then the angel of YHWH commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto the YHWH in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

18  And the angel of the Lord told Gad to tell David, that he should go up to erect and altar to the Lord, in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite.

21:19  And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of YHWH.

19  Therefore, David ascended, in accord with the word of Gad, which he had spoken to him in the name of the Lord.

21:20  And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

20  Now when Ornan had looked up and seen the Angel, he and his four sons hid themselves. For at that time, he was threshing wheat upon the floor.

20  And David saw the angel who was destroying the people, that he had stayed his hand and was destroying no more.

21:21  And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed down to David with his face to the ground.

21  And David came to Orna; and Orna came forth from the threshing-floor, and did obeisance to David with his face to the ground.

21  Then, as David was approaching Ornan, Ornan saw him, and he went out from the threshing floor to meet him. And he reverenced him prone on the ground.

21:22  Then David said to Ornan: 'Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto YHWH; for the full price shalt thou give it me; that the plague may be stayed from the people.'

22  And David said to Orna, Give me thy place of the threshing-floor, and I will build upon it an altar to the Lord: give it me for its worth in money, and the plague shall cease from among the people.

22  And David said to him: “Give this place of your threshing floor to me, so that I may build an altar to the Lord upon it. And you shall accept from me as much money as it is worth, so that the plague may cease from the people.”

21:23  And Ornan said unto David: 'Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes; lo, I give thee the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing-instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all'

23  And Orna said to David, Take it to thyself, and let my lord the king do what is right in his eyes: see, I have given the calves for a whole-burnt-offering, and the plough for wood, and the corn for a meat-offering; I have given all.

23  But Ornan said to David: “Take it, and may my lord the king do whatever pleases him. Moreover, I give the oxen also as a holocaust, and the plow for wood, and the wheat for a sacrifice. I will offer all freely.”

21:24  And king David said to Ornan: 'Nay, but I will verily buy it for the full price; for I will not take that which is thine for YHWH, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost.'

24  And king David said to him: “By no means shall it be so. Instead, I will give money to you, as much as it is worth. For I must not take it from you, and thereby offer to the Lord holocausts that cost nothing.”

24  But King David said to Aran, Far be it, but I will surely buy it with money for the full price; for I will not take that which is yours and offer a burnt offering to the LORD without cost.

21:25  So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

25  Therefore, David gave Ornan, for the place, the very just weight of six hundred shekels of gold.

25  So David bought from Aran that place of the threshing floor for fifty shekels.

21:26  And David built there an altar unto YHWH, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon the YHWH; and He answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.

26  And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and he cried to the Lord, and he answered him by fire out of heaven on the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, and it consumed the whole-burnt-offering.

26  And he built an altar to the Lord there. And he offered holocausts and peace offerings, and he called upon the Lord. And he heeded him by sending fire from heaven upon the altar of the holocaust.

21:27  And YHWH commanded the angel; and he put up his sword back into the sheath thereof.

27  And the Lord spoke to the angel; and he put up the sword into its sheath.

21:28  At that time, when David saw that YHWH had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

28  Then, seeing that the Lord had heeded him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, David immediately immolated victims there.

21:29  For the tabernacle of YHWH, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.

29  But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the desert, and the altar of holocausts, were at that time on the high place of Gibeon.

29  And he pitched there before the LORD the tabernacle which Moses had made in the wilderness when the children of Israel went forth out of Egypt.

21:30  But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was terrified because of the sword of the angel of YHWH.

30  And David was unable to go to the altar, so that he might pray to God there. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear, seeing the sword of the Angel of the Lord.

30  At that time David was exceedingly afraid, and could not go to pray before the LORD for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

22:1  Then David said: 'This is the house of YHWH God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel.'

1  And David said, “This is the house of God, and this is the altar for the holocaust of Israel.”

22:2  And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.

2  And David gave orders to gather all the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he appointed stone-hewers to hew polished stones to build the house to God.

2  And he instructed them to gather all the new converts from the land of Israel. And from these he appointed stoneworkers, to hew stones and to polish them, so that he might build the house of God.

22:3  And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight;

3  Also, David prepared very much iron to use for the nails of the gates, and for the seams and joints, as well as an immeasurable weight of brass.

3  And to make some of them blacksmiths to forge iron to make axes and hatchets for hewing stones. And David prepared bars of iron, and brass in abundance without weight;

22:4  and cedar-trees without number; for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David.

4  Also, the cedar trees, which the Sidonians and Tyrians had transported to David, were not able to be counted.

22:5  And David said: 'Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for YHWH must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries; I will therefore make preparation for him.' So David prepared abundantly before his death.

5  And David said: “My son Solomon is a young and tender boy. But the house that I desire to be built to the Lord ought to be so great that it is renowned in every region. Therefore, I will prepare what will be necessary for him.” And for this reason, before his death, he prepared all the expenses.

5  And David said, Solomon my son is still a small boy, and concerning him it is said in the book that he will build a house to the LORD which will be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries; I will therefore prepare everything necessary for it while I am living. So David prepared everything that was needed for the house, and lacked nothing.

22:6  Then He called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for YHWH, the God of Israel.

6  And he called Solomon his son, and commanded him to build the house for the Lord God of Israel.

22:7  And David said to Solomon: 'My son, as for me, it was in my heart to build a house unto the name of YHWH my God.

7  You shall build a house for the LORD God of Israel;

22:8  But the word of YHWH came to me, saying: Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars; thou shalt not build a house unto My name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in My sight.

8  But the word of the Lord came to me, saying: ‘You have shed much blood, and you have battled in many wars. You are not able to build a house to my name, so great was the shedding of blood before me.

8  For he has sent to me by a prophet, saying, You have shed blood abundantly and have made great wars; you shall not build a house to my name because you have shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

22:9  Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

9  The son who shall be born to you will be a very quiet man. For I will cause him to have rest from all his enemies on every side. And for this reason, he shall be called Peaceful. And I will grant peace and tranquility to Israel during all his days.

22:10  He shall build a house for My name; and he shall be to Me for a son, and I will be to him for a father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

22:11  Now, my son, YHWH be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the YHWH thy God, as He hath spoken concerning thee.

11  And now, my son, the Lord shall be with thee, and prosper thee; and thou shalt build a house to the Lord thy God, as he spoke concerning thee.

11  Now then, my son, may the Lord be with you, and may you prosper and build a house to the Lord your God, just as he has spoken concerning you.

22:12  Only YHWH give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel; that so thou mayest keep the law of the YHWH thy God.

12  Also, may the Lord give you prudence and understanding, so that you may be able to rule Israel and to guard the law of the Lord your God.

12  Only may the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God, just as he has commanded you.

22:13  Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which YHWH charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed.

13  For then you will be able to advance, if you keep the commandments and judgments that the Lord instructed Moses to teach to Israel. Be strengthened and act manfully. You should not fear, and you should not dread.

13  Then you shall prosper if you take heed to observe these commandments and the statutes and judgments just as the LORD charged Moses to teach Israel, then you will be strong and of good courage; fear not, nor be dismayed.

22:14  Now, behold, in my straits I have prepared for the house of YHWH a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight, for it is in abundance; timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.

14  Behold, in my poverty I have prepared the expenses for the house of the Lord: one hundred thousand talents of gold, and one million of talents of silver. Yet truly, there is no measuring the brass and the iron. For their magnitude is beyond numbering. And I have prepared the timber and the stones for the entire project.

22:15  Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men that are skilful in any manner of work;

15  Also, you have very many artisans: stoneworkers, and builders of walls, and craftsmen of wood, and those most prudent in doing the work of every art,

22:16  of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and YHWH be with thee.'

16  in gold and silver, brass and iron, of which there is no number. Arise and do, and the Lord be with thee.

16  Cunning men for every manner of work; of gold, silver, brass, and iron in abundance. Be strong therefore and be doing, and the LORD will help you.

22:17  David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son

17  And David charged all the chief men of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

17  Also, David instructed all the leaders of Israel, so that they would assist his son Solomon,

22:18  'Is not YHWH your God with you? and hath He not given you rest on every side? for He hath delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before the YHWH, and before His people.

18  saying: “You discern that the Lord your God is with you, and that he has given you rest on all sides, and that he has delivered all your enemies into your hands, and that the land has been subdued before the Lord and before his people.

18  For behold, the LORD your God is with you; and he will help you and relieve you on every side. Behold he has delivered all the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and before his people.

22:19  Now set your heart and your soul to seek after YHWH your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the YHWH God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.'

19  Therefore, offer your hearts and your souls, so that you seek the Lord your God. And rise up and build a sanctuary to the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the vessels consecrated to the Lord, may be brought into the house that is built to the name of the Lord.”

23:1  Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

1  Then David, being old and full of days, appointed his son Solomon as king over Israel.

23:2  And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

2  And he assembled all the chief men of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites.

23:3  And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

23:4  Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of YHWH; and six thousand were officers and judges;

4  Of them David appointed overseers over the work of the house of the LORD, twenty-four men over every thousand workers; and judges and scribes, six men over each hundred workers

23:5  and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised YHWH 'with the instruments which I made to praise therewith.'

5  Moreover, four thousand were porters. And the same number were the singers of psalms to the Lord, with the musical instruments which he had made for the music.

5  To look after the building, to carry on their work, to oversee the resources and the work, and to give an accounting of wealth and the alms which they had distributed to the poor.

23:6  And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

6  And David distributed them into courses according to the sons of Levi, specifically, Gershom, and Kohath, and Merari.

6  And David appointed administrators and managers over the poor and needy, to provide and distribute to the poor; one person over each ten, and they lacked nothing. And David appointed them all in their courses according to the sons of Levi; namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

23:7  Of the Gershonites: Ladan, and Shimei.

7  And for the family of Gedson, Edan, and Semei.

7  The sons of Gershom: Ladan and Shimei.

23:8  The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

23:9  The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.

9  The sons of Semei; Salomith, Jeiel, and Dan, three: these were the chiefs of the families of Edan.

23:10  And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

23:11  And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.

11  And Jeth was the chief, and Ziza the second: and Joas and Beria did not multiply sons, and they became only one reckoning according to the house of their father.

11  Now Jahath was first, Zizah second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, and for this reason they were reckoned as one family and one house.

23:12  The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

23:13  The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should be sanctified as most holy, he and his sons for ever, to offer before YHWH, to minister unto Him, and to bless in His name for ever.

23:14  But as for Moses the man of God, his sons are named among the tribe of Levi.

14  And as for Moses the man of God, his sons were reckoned to the tribe of Levi.

14  The sons of Moses, the man of God, were also numbered in the tribe of Levi.

23:15  The sons of Moses: Gershom, and Eliezer.

23:16  The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

16  The son of Gershon was Samuel his first-born.

23:17  And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

17  Now the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the first. And there were no other sons for Eliezer. But the sons of Rehabiah were multiplied exceedingly.

17  And the son of Eliezer was Arhimah his first-born. And Eliezer had no other sons; but the son of Arhimah was Ribbi his first-born.

23:18  The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

18  And the son of Izhar was Shelomith his first-born.

23:19  The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

23:20  The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

23:21  The sons of Merari: Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar, and Kish.

23:22  And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife.

22  Then Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And so the sons of Kish, their brothers, married them.

23:23  The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

23:24  These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses, according to their muster, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of YHWH, from twenty years old and upward.

24  These are the sons of Levi according to the houses of their fathers; chiefs of their families according to their numbering, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, doing the works of service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.

24  These are the sons of Levi, in their kindred and families, leaders in turns, and the number of each of the heads who were doing the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord, from twenty years of age and upward.

23:25  For David said: 'YHWH, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto His people, and He dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever;

23:26  and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.'

26  And the Levites bore not the tabernacle, and all the vessels of it for its service.

26  Neither shall it be the office of the Levites any more to carry the tabernacle with all its equipment for use in the ministry.”

23:27  For by the last ordinances of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.

27  Also, according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi shall be counted by number from twenty years of age and upward.

23:28  For their station was at the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of YHWH, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

28  And they shall be under the hand of the sons of Aaron, in the care of the house of the Lord, in the vestibule, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord.

28  Because he appointed them to the office to help the sons of Aaron to be overseers in the house of the LORD, over those who sound with straight and curved trumpets, and over the chambers in which the holy vessels of the LORD were stored;

23:29  for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked on the griddle, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;

29  But the priests shall be over the bread of the presence, and the sacrifice of fine wheat flour, and the unleavened cakes, and the frying pan, and the roasting, and over every weight and measure.

29  And over the shewbread and the fine flour for meal offering and the unleavened cakes and over all those who sing and offer thanks,

23:30  and to stand every morning to thank and praise YHWH, and likewise at even;

30  Yet truly, the Levites shall stand to confess and to sing to the Lord, in the morning, and similarly in the evening,

30  And that they might arise every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at evening,

23:31  and to offer all burnt-offerings unto YHWH, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and in the appointed seasons, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before the YHWH;

31  and to be over all the whole-burnt-offerings that were offered up to the Lord on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts, by number, according to the order given to them, continually before the Lord.

23:32  and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of YHWH.

32  And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the rituals of the sanctuary, and the observance of the sons of Aaron, their brothers, so that they may minister in the house of the Lord.

32  And that they should have charge of the vessels of the tabernacle of the congregation and charge of the vessels of the sanctuary and charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren when they were needed to minister in the house of the LORD.

24:1  And the courses of the sons of Aaron were these. The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

1  And they number the sons of Aaron in their division, Nadab, and Abiud, and Eleazar, and Ithamar.

1  Now these were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, and Abihu, and Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24:2  But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children; therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office.

2  And Nadab and Abiud died before their father, and they had no sons: so Eleazar and Ithamar the sons of Aaron ministered as priests.

24:3  And David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service.

3  And David distributed them, even Sadoc of the sons of Eleazar, and Achimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their numbering, according to their service, according to the houses of their fathers.

3  And David distributed them, that is, Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their courses and ministry.

24:4  And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of fathers' houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers' houses, eight.

4  And there were found many more of the sons of Eleazar among the leading men, than of the sons of Ithamar. Therefore, he divided them so that there were, of the sons of Eleazar, sixteen leaders by their families, and of the sons of Ithamar eight by their families and houses.

24:5  Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for they were princes of the sanctuary and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

5  And he divided them according to their lots, one with the other; for there were those who had charge of the holy things, and those who had charge of the house of the Lord among the sons of Eleazar, and among the sons of Ithamar.

5  Then he divided among them, in both families, by lot. For there were leaders of the sanctuary and leaders of God, as much from the sons of Eleazar as from the sons of Ithamar.

24:6  And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the priests and of the Levites: one father's house being taken for Eleazar, and proportionately for Ithamar.

6  And the scribe Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel, a Levite, wrote these down before the king and the leaders, with Zadok, the priest, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, and also the leaders of the priestly and Levitical families. And there was one house, which was preeminent over the others, that of Eleazar; and there was another house, which had the others under it, that of Ithamar.

24:7  Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah;

24:8  the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim;

24:9  the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin;

24:10  the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah;

24:11  the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah;

24:12  the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim;

24:13  the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab;

24:14  the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer;

24:15  the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez;

24:16  the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel;

24:17  the one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul;

17  the twenty-first to Achim, the twenty-second to Gamul,

24:18  the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

18  the twenty-third to Adallai, the twenty-fourth to Maasai.

24:19  These were the orderings of them in their service, to come into the house of YHWH according to the ordinance given unto them by the hand of Aaron their father, as the YHWH, the God of Israel, had commanded him.

24:20  And of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.

20  Now of the sons of Levi who were remaining, there were Shubael, from the sons of Amram, and Jehdeiah, from the sons of Shubael.

24:21  Of Rehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief.

21  For Raabia, the chief was Isaari,

21  Also, there were Isshiah, the leader from the sons of Rehabiah,

24:22  Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath.

22  and for Isaari, Salomoth: for the sons of Salomoth, Jath.

24:23  And Benai, Jeriah, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

23  The sons of Ecdiu; Amadia the second, Jaziel the third, Jecmoam the fourth.

23  Jeremiah, Hezaiel, and Neshamim.

24:24  The sons of Uzziel, Micah; of the sons of Micah, Shamir.

24  Of the sons of Uzziel: Michah; of the sons of Michah: Shamir and Jeshua.

24:25  The brother of Micah, Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.

25  Of the sons of Jeshua: Zechariah.

24:26  The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Jaaziah, his son,

24:27  even the sons of Merari through Jaaziah his son: Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri.

27  That is, the sons of Merari by Ozia, —his sons were Isoam, and Sacchur, and Abai.

24:28  Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.

28  To Mooli were born Eleazar, and Ithamar; and Eleazar died, and had no sons.

28  In addition, the son of Mahli was Eleazar, who had no children.

24:29  Of Kish: the sons of Kish, Jerahmeel.

29  Truly, the son of Kish was Jerahmeel.

24:30  And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after their fathers' houses.

30  The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of Levi according to the houses of their families.

24:31  These likewise cast lots even as their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the priests and of the Levites; the fathers' houses of the chief even as those of his younger brother.

31  And they also received lots as their brethren the sons of Aaron before the king; Sadoc also, and Achimelech, and the chiefs of the families of the priests and of the Levites, principal heads of families, even as their younger brethren.

25:1  Moreover David and the captains of the host separated for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals; and the number of them that did the work according to their service was

1  And king David and the captains of the host appointed to their services the sons of Asaph, and of Æman, and of Idithun, prophesiers with harps, and lutes, and cymbals: and their number was according to their polls serving in their ministrations.

1  MOREOVER David and the princes of the tribes set aside for the service of the sons of Asaph, Haman and Jeruthun, the sons of Azram his son. These are the Levites according to the families of their fathers. These likewise cast lots over their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king and Zadok and Ahimelech and the chiefs of the fathers of the priests and Levites. The younger and the elder brother were reckoned alike in numbering; and the number of the workmen according to their service was,

25:2  of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph; under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied according to the direction of the king.

2  The sons of Asaph; Sacchur, Joseph, and Nathanias, and Erael: the sons of Asaph were next the king.

2  From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, prophesying beside the king.

25:3  Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six; under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising YHWH.

3  To Idithun were reckoned the sons of Idithun, Godolias, and Suri, and Iseas, and Asabias, and Matthathias, six after their father Idithun, sounding loudly on the harp thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.

3  Of the sons of Jeruthun: Azariah, Isaiah, Hashabiah, Mattithiah, and Jeruthun, six, under the direction of their father Jeruthun, who sang with harps and gave thanks to the LORD.

25:4  Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth;

4  To Æman were reckoned the sons of Æman, Bukias, and Matthanias, and Oziel, and Subael, and Jerimoth, and Ananias, and Anan, and Heliatha, and Godollathi, and Rometthiezer, and Jesbasaca, and Mallithi, and Otheri, and Meazoth.

25:5  all these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the things pertaining to God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

25:6  All these were under the hands of their fathers for song in the house of YHWH, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the direction of the king--Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

6  All these sang hymns with their father in the house of God, with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, for the service of the house of God, near the king, and Asaph, and Idithun, and Æman.

6  All these, under their father’s hand, were distributed in order to sing in the temple of the Lord, with cymbals and psalteries and harps, in the ministry of the house of the Lord beside the king, specifically, Asaph, and Jeduthun, and Heman.

25:7  And the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in singing unto YHWH, even all that were skilful, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

7  Now the number of these, with their brothers, who were instructing in the song of the Lord, all the teachers, were two hundred eighty-eight.

25:8  And they cast lots ward against ward , as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

8  And they also cast lots for the daily courses, for the great and the small of them, of the perfect ones and the learners.

8  And they cast lots in their turns, the elder equally with the younger, the learned together with the unlearned.

25:9  Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah; he and his brethren and sons were twelve;

9  And the first lot of his sons and of his brethren came forth to Asaph the son of Joseph, namely, Godolias: the second Heneia, his sons and his brethren being twelve.

9  And the first lot went forth to Joseph, who was of Asaph; the second went forth to Gedaliah, to him and his sons and his brothers, twelve.

25:10  The third to Zaccur, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:11  The fourth to Izri, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:12  The fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:13  The sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:14  The seventh to Jesarelah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:15  The eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:16  The ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:17  The tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:18  The eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:19  The twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25:20  For the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

20  The thirteenth went to Shubael, to his sons and brothers, twelve.

25:21  For the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

21  The fourteenth went to Mattithiah, to his sons and brothers, twelve.

25:22  For the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

22  the fifteenth Jerimoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:23  For the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

23  the sixteenth Anania, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:24  For the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

24  the seventeenth Jesbasaca, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:25  For the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

25  the eighteenth Ananias, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:26  For the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

26  the nineteenth Mallithi, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:27  For the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

27  The twentieth went to Eliathah, to his sons and brothers, twelve.

25:28  For the one and twentieth to Hothir, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

28  the twenty-first Otheri, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:29  For the two and twentieth to Giddalti, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

29  the twenty-second Godollathi, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:30  For the three and twentieth to Mahazioth, his sons and his brethren, twelve;

30  the twenty-third Meazoth, his sons and his brethren, twelve

25:31  For the four and twentieth to Romamti-ezer, his sons and his brethren, twelve.

31  the twenty-fourth Rometthiezer, his sons and his brethren, twelve

26:1  For the courses of the doorkeepers: of the Korahites: Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

1  And for the divisions of the gates: the sons of the Corites were Mosellemia, of the sons of Asaph.

1  CONCERNING the divisions of the porters whom David the king appointed as guards: Meshelemiah of the sons of Joseph.

26:2  And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the first-born, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth;

2  And Mosellemia’s first-born son was Zacharias, the second Jadiel, the third Zabadia, the fourth Jenuel,

26:3  Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Eliehoenai the seventh.

3  the fifth Jolam, the sixth Jonathan, the seventh Elionai, the eighth Abdedom.

26:4  And Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the first-born, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethanel the fifth;

4  And to Abdedom there were born sons, Samaias the first-born, Jozabath the second, Joath the third, Sachar the fourth, Nathanael the fifth,

4  Then the sons of Obededom: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sachar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,

26:5  Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullethai the eighth; for God blessed him.

26:6  Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled over the house of their father; for they were mighty men of valour.

6  And to Samaias his son were born the sons of his first-born, chiefs over the house of their father, for they were mighty.

6  Now to his son Shemaiah, there were born sons, rulers of their families. For they were very strong men.

26:7  The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, and Rephael and Obed and Elzabad his brethren, valiant men; Elihu also, and Semachiah.

7  The sons of Samai; Othni, and Raphael, and Obed, and Elzabath, and Achiud, mighty men, Heliu, and Sabachia, and Isbacom.

7  Then the sons of Shemaiah were Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad and his brothers, very strong men, as well as Elihu and Semachiah.

26:8  All these were of the sons of Obed-edom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men in strength for the service; threescore and two of Obed-edom.

8  All these were from the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and brothers, very fit for the ministry, sixty-two from Obededom.

26:9  And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, valiant men, eighteen.

9  And Mosellemia had eighteen sons and brethren, mighty men.

9  Then there were the sons of Meshelemiah and their brothers, very robust men, eighteen.

26:10  Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons: Shimri the chief--for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him chief--

10  And to Osa of the sons of Merari there were born sons, keeping the dominion; though he was not the first-born, yet his father made him chief of the second division.

10  Now, from Hosah, that is, from the sons of Merari: Shimri the leader, for he had not had a firstborn son, and so, because of this, his father had appointed him as the leader,

26:11  Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth; all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

11  Chelcias the second, Tablai the third, Zacharias the fourth: all these were the sons and brethren of Osa, thirteen.

26:12  These courses of the doorkeepers, even the chief men, had wards over against their brethren, to minister in the house of YHWH.

12  To these were assigned the divisions of the gates, to the chiefs of the mighty men the daily courses, even their brethren, to minister in the house of the Lord.

26:13  And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to their fathers' houses, for every gate.

13  Then they cast lots equally, for both the small and the great, by their families, concerning each one of the gates.

26:14  And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a discreet counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

14  And the lot of the east gates fell to Selemias, and Zacharias: the sons of Soaz cast lots for Melchias, and the lot came out northward.

14  And the lot of the east fell out to Shelemiah. But to his son Zechariah, a very prudent and learned man, the northern section was obtained by lot.

26:15  To Obed-edom southward; and to his sons the Storehouse.

15  To Abdedom they gave by lot the south, opposite the house of Esephim.

15  Truly, Obededom and his sons obtained that to the south, in the part of the house where the council of elders was.

26:16  To Shuppim and Hosah westward, by the gate of Shallecheth, at the causeway that goeth up, ward against ward.

16  They gave the lot for the second to Osa westward, after the gate of the chamber by the ascent, watch against watch.

16  Shuppim and Hosah obtained that toward the west, beside the gate that leads to the way of the ascent, one post facing the other.

26:17  Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and for the Storehouse two and two.

17  Eastward were six watchmen in the day; northward four by the day; southward four by the day; and two at the Esephim,

17  Truly, toward the east there were six Levites, and toward the north there were four per day, and then toward the south similarly there were four each day. And where the council was, there were two and two.

26:18  For the Precinct westward, four at the causeway, and two at the Precinct.

18  to relieve guard, also for Osa westward after the chamber-gate, three. There was a ward over against the ward of the ascent eastward, six men in a day, and four for the north, and four for the south, and at the Esephim two to relieve guard, and four by the west, and two to relieve guard at the pathway.

18  At Parbar westward, four at the road and two at Parbar.

26:19  These were the courses of the doorkeepers; of the sons of the Korahites, and of the sons of Merari.

19  These are the divisions of the porters for the sons of Core, and to the sons of Merari.

26:20  And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God, and over the treasuries of the hallowed things.

20  And the Levites their brethren were over the treasures of the house of the Lord, and over the treasures of the hallowed things.

20  Now Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God, and the holy vessels.

26:21  The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, the heads of the fathers' houses belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli.

21  The sons of Laadan: of the descendants of Gershon, Laadan, chiefs of the fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, was Nahli.

26:22  The sons of Jehieli: Zetham, and Joel his brother, over the treasuries of the house of YHWH.

22  The sons of Jeiel were Zethom, and Joel; brethren who were over the treasures of the house of the Lord.

26:23  Of the Amramites, of the Izharites, of the Hebronites, of the Uzzielites;

23  To Ambram and Issaar belonged Chebron, and Oziel.

23  with the Amramites, and Izharites, and Hebronites, and Uzzielites.

26:24  Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler over the treasuries.

24  Now, Shebuel, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was in the first place over the treasuries,

24  Samuel the son of Gershon, the son of Moses, was chief in charge of the storehouses.

26:25  And his brethren by Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

25  And Rabias was son to his brother Eliezer, and so was Josias, and Joram, and Zechri, and Salomoth.

25  along with his brothers, Eliezer, and his son Rehabiah, and his son Jeshaiah, and his son Joram, and also his son Zichri, and his son Shelomoth.

26:26  This Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasuries of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the heads of the fathers' houses, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

26  This Salomoth and his brethren were over all the sacred treasures, which David the king and the heads of families consecrated, and the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and princes of the host,

26  The same Shelomoth and his brothers were over the treasuries of the holy things, which king David sanctified, with the leaders of the families, and the tribunes, and the centurions, and the commanders of the army.

26:27  Out of the spoil won in battles did they dedicate to repair the house of YHWH.

27  things which he took out of cities and from the spoils, and consecrated some of them, so that the building of the house of God should not want supplies;

27  These things were from the wars and from the best spoils of the battles, which they had consecrated for the repair and the furnishing of the temple of the Lord.

26:28  And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated; whosoever had dedicated any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

28  and over all the holy things of God dedicated by Samuel the prophet, and Saul the son of Kis, and Abenner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Saruia, whatsoever they sanctified was by the hand of Salomoth and his brethren.

28  Now all these things were sanctified by Samuel, the seer, and by Saul, the son of Kish, and by Abner, the son of Ner, and by Joab, the son of Zeruiah. All those who had sanctified these were under the hand of Shelomoth and his brothers.

26:29  Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sorts were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.

29  For the Issaarites, Chonenia, and his sons were over the outward ministration over Israel, to record and to judge.

29  Yet truly, Chenaniah and his sons were over the Izharites, for the exterior works concerning Israel, in order to teach and to judge them.

26:30  Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, had the oversight of Israel beyond the Jordan westward; for all the business of YHWH, and for the service of the king.

26:31  Of the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even of the Hebronites, according to their generations by fathers' houses. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.

31  Of the family of Chebron Urias was chief, even of the Chebronites according to their generations, according to their families. In the fortieth year of his reign they were numbered, and there were found mighty men among them in Jazer of Galaad.

31  And the leader of the Hebronites was Jerijah, according to their families and kindred. In the fortieth year of the reign of David, they were numbered, and there were found very strong men in Jazer Gilead.

26:32  And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred, heads of fathers' houses, whom king David made overseers over the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites, for every matter pertaining to God, and for the affairs of the king.

32  And his brethren were two thousand seven hundred mighty men, chiefs of their families, and king David set them over the Rubenites, and the Gaddites, and the half-tribe of Manasse, for every ordinance of the Lord, and business of the king.

27:1  Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the heads of fathers' houses and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that served the king, in any matter of the courses which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.

1  Now the sons of Israel according to their number, heads of families, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and scribes ministering to the king, and for every affair of the king according to their divisions, for every ordinance of coming in and going out monthly, for all the months of the year, one division of them was twenty-four thousand.

1  Now the sons of Israel, according to their number, the leaders of the families, the tribunes, and the centurions, and the chiefs, who were ministering to the king by their companies, entering and departing in each month of the year as they were in charge, were twenty-four thousand.

27:2  Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

2  And over the first division of the first month was Isboaz the son of Zabdiel: in his division were twenty-four thousand.

2  Jashobeam, the son of Zabdiel, was in charge of the first company in the first month; and under him were twenty-four thousand.

27:3  Of the children of Perez was he, and the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

3  He was from the sons of Perez, and he was the leader of all the other leaders in the army, in the first month.

27:4  And over the course of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his course, and Mikloth the ruler; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

4  And over the division of the second month was Dodia the son of Ecchoc, and over his division was Makelloth also chief: and in his division were twenty and four thousand, chief men of the host.

4  The company of the second month had Dodai, an Ahohite; and after him there was another, named Mikloth, who ruled over a portion of the army of the twenty-four thousand.

27:5  The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the priest, chief; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

5  The third for the third month was Banaias the son of Jodae the chief priest: and in his division were twenty and four thousand.

5  Also, the commander of the third company, in the third month, was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest; and in his division there were twenty-four thousand.

27:6  This is that Benaiah, who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty; and of his course was Ammizabad his son.

6  This Banaeas was more mighty than the thirty, and over the thirty: and Zabad his son was over his division.

6  This is the Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and in command of the thirty officers; and in his division was Mizbar his son.

27:7  The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:8  The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:9  The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:10  The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:11  The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

11  The eighth for the eighth month was Sobochai the Usathite, belonging to Zarai: and in his division were twenty and four thousand.

27:12  The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

12  The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer of Anathoth, of the land of Benjamin: and in his division were twenty and four thousand.

27:13  The tenth captain for the tenth month was Mahrai, the Netophathite, of the Zerahites; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

13  The tenth for the tenth month was Meera the Netophathite, belonging to Zarai: and in his division were twenty and four thousand.

27:14  The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:15  The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel; and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

27:16  Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri the ruler; of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah;

16  And over the tribes of Israel, the chief for Ruben was Eliezer the son of Zechri: for Symeon, Saphatias the son of Maacha

16  Now those who were first over the tribes of Israel were these: over the Reubenites, Eliezer, the son of Zichri, was the ruler; over the Simeonites, Shephatiah, the son of Maacah, was the ruler;

27:17  of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; of Aaron, Zadok;

17  for Levi, Asabias the son of Camuel: for Aaron, Sadoc

17  over the Levites, Hashabiah, the son of Kemuel; over the Aaronites, Zadok;

27:18  of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David; of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;

18  for Juda, Eliab of the brethren of David: for Issachar, Ambri the son of Michael

27:19  of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel;

19  over the Zebulunites, Ishmaiah, the son of Obadiah; over the Naphtalites, Jeremoth, the son of Azriel;

27:20  of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah;

20  for Ephraim, Ose the son of Ozia: for the half-tribe of Manasse, Joel the son of Phadaea

27:21  of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner;

21  for the half-tribe of Manasse in the land of Galaad, Jadai the son of Zadaeas, for the sons of Benjamin, Jasiel the son of Abenner

21  and over the one half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo, the son of Zechariah; then over Benjamin, Jaasiel, the son of Abner;

27:22  of Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the captains of the tribes of Israel.

22  for Dan, Azariel the son of Iroab: these are the chiefs of the tribes of Israel.

22  yet truly, Azarel, the son of Jeroham, was over Dan. These were the leaders of the sons of Israel.

27:23  But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under; because YHWH had said He would increase Israel like to the stars of heaven.

27:24  Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but finished not; and there came wrath for this upon Israel; neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

24  And Joab the son of Saruia began to number the people, and did not finish the work, for there was hereupon wrath on Israel; and the number was not recorded in the book of the chronicles of king David.

24  Joab, the son of Zeruiah, had begun to number, but he did not finish. For because of this, wrath had fallen upon Israel. And therefore the number of those who had been counted was not related in the official records of king David.

27:25  And over the king's treasuries was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the treasuries in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah;

25  Now over the storerooms of the king was Azmaveth, the son of Adiel. But Jonathan, the son of Uzziah, was over those storerooms that were in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers.

27:26  and over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub;

26  And over the husbandmen who tilled the ground was Esdri the son of Chelub.

26  And over the farmlands and the farmers, those who worked the ground, was Ezri, the son of Chelub.

27:27  and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over the increase of the vineyards for the wine-cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite;

27  And over the fields was Semei of Rael; and over the treasures of wine in the fields was Zabdi the son of Sephni.

27  And over the cultivators of vineyards was Shimei, a Ramathite; then over the wine cellars was Zabdi, an Aphonite.

27:28  and over the olive-trees and the sycomore-trees that were in the Lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the cellars of oil was Joash;

28  Now over the olive groves and the fig groves, which were in the plains, was Baal-hanan, a Gederite; and over the oil cellars was Joash.

27:29  and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shirtai the Sharonite; and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai;

29  And over the oxen pasturing in Saron was Satrai the Saronite; and over the oxen in the valleys was Sophat the son of Adli.

29  Now over the herds that were pastured in Sharon, Shitrai, a Sharonite, was in the first place; and over the oxen in the valleys, there was Shaphat, the son of Adlai.

27:30  and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite;

30  Truly, over the camels was Obil, an Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah, a Meronothite.

27:31  and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.

31  And over the sheep was Jaziz the Agarite. All these were superintendents of the substance of king David.

27:32  Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counsellor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons;

32  And Jonathan, David’s uncle by the father’s side, was a counsellor, a wise man: and Jeel the son of Achami was with the king’s sons.

32  Now Jonathan, the uncle of David, was a counselor, a prudent and scholarly man; he and Jehiel, the son of Hachmoni, were with the sons of the king.

27:33  and Ahithophel was the king's counsellor; and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend;

33  Achitophel was the king’s counsellor: and Chusi the chief friend of the king.

33  Now Ahithophel was the counselor of the king; and Hushai, the Archite, was the king’s friend.

27:34  and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar; and the captain of the king's host was Joab.

34  And after this Achitophel Jodae the son of Banaeas came next, and Abiathar: and Joab was the king’s commander-in-chief.

34  After Ahithophel was Jehoiada, the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. But the leader of the army of the king was Joab.

28:1  And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that served the king by course, and the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the rulers over all the substance and cattle of the king and of his sons, with the officers, and the mighty men, even all the mighty men of valour, unto Jerusalem.

1  And so David called together all the leaders of Israel, the rulers of the tribes, and those in charge of the companies, who were ministering to the king, and also the tribunes and centurions, and those in charge of the substance and possessions of the king, and his sons, with the eunuchs and the powerful and those most experienced in the army, at Jerusalem.

28:2  Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said: 'Hear me, my brethren, and my people; as for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of YHWH, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.

2  And David stood in the midst of the assembly, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and a place for the feet of our Lord, and I prepared materials suitable for the building

2  And when the king had risen up and was standing, he said: “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I thought that I would build a house, in which the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the footstool of our God, might rest. And so I prepared everything for its building.

28:3  But God said unto me: Thou shalt not build a house for My name, because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.

28:4  Howbeit YHWH, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever; for He hath chosen Judah to be prince, and in the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father He took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel;

4  Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of the whole house of my father to be king over Israel for ever; and he chose Juda as the kingly house, and out of the house of Juda he chose the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he preferred me, that I should be king over all Israel.

4  However the LORD God of Israel chose me from all my father's house to be king over Israel for ever; for he has chosen out of the house of Judah to be the king; and of the tribe of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he chose me to be king over Israel;

28:5  and of all my sons--for YHWH hath given me many sons--He hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the YHWH over Israel.

5  Then too, among my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he chose Solomon my son, so that he would sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the Lord, over Israel.

28:6  And He said unto me: Solomon thy son, he shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be to Me for a son, and I will be to him for a father.

28:7  And I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do My commandments and Mine ordinances, as at this day.

7  And I will make firm his kingdom, even unto eternity, if he will persevere in doing my precepts and judgments, as also today.’

7  Moreover I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever if he continues to keep my commandments and my judgments as at this day.

28:8  Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the congregation of YHWH, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the YHWH your God; that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you for ever.

28:9  And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve Him with a whole heart and with a willing mind; for YHWH searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts; if thou seek Him, He will be found of thee; but if thou forsake Him, He will cast thee off for ever.

28:10  Take heed now; for YHWH hath chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it.'

10  Now therefore, since the Lord has chosen you, so that you would build the house of the Sanctuary, be strengthened and accomplish it.”

10  Know now and take heed; for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary of the name of the LORD; be strong, be valiant, and do it.

28:11  Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch of the temple , and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper rooms thereof, and of the inner chambers thereof, and of the place of the ark-cover;

11  And David gave Solomon his son the plan of the temple, and its buildings, and its treasuries, and its upper chambers, and the inner store-rooms, and the place of the atonement,

11  Then David gave to his son Solomon a description of the portico, and the temple, and the storerooms, and the upper floor, and the innermost rooms, and the house of propitiation,

28:12  and the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, for the courts of the house of YHWH, and for all the chambers round about, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the hallowed things;

28:13  also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of YHWH, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the YHWH

13  and the plan of the courses of the priests and Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and of the stores of vessels for ministration of the service of the house of the Lord.

13  and for the divisions of the priests and the Levites: concerning all the works of the house of the Lord and all the items in the ministry of the temple of the Lord.

28:14  of gold by weight for the vessels of gold, for all vessels of every kind of service; of silver for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;

14  And he gave him the account of their weight, both of gold and silver vessels.

14  There was gold by weight for every vessel of the ministry, and also silver by weight for the diversity of vessels and equipment.

28:15  by weight also for the candlesticks of gold, and for the lamps thereof, of gold, by weight for every candlestick and for the lamps thereof; and for the candlesticks of silver, silver by weight for every candlestick and for the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick;

15  He gave him the weight of the candlesticks, and of the lamps.

15  Then too, he distributed gold for the lampstands and their lamps, according to the measure of each of the lampstands with their lamps. Similarly also, he distributed silver by weight for the silver lampstands with their lamps, according to the diversity of their measure.

28:16  and the gold by weight for the tables of showbread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;

16  Also, he gave gold for the tables of the presence, according to the diversity of the tables; similarly too, he gave silver for the other tables of silver.

28:17  and the flesh-hooks, and the basins, and the jars, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;

17  Also, he distributed from the purest gold for the small hooks and the bowls and the censors, as well as for the little lions of gold, in accord with the precise measure of the weight, for lion after lion. Similarly too, for the lions of silver, he set aside a different weight of silver.

17  Also large spoons, flesh hooks, and bowls of silver; the gold of these vessels could not be weighed;

28:18  and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot, even the cherubim, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of YHWH.

18  And he shewed him the weight of the utensils of the altar of incense, which was of pure gold, and the plan of the chariot of the cherubs that spread out their wings, and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

18  Then, for the altar on which the incense was burned, he gave the purest gold. And from the same he made the likeness of the chariot of the Cherubim, with extended wings, which is veiling the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

28:19  'All this do I give thee in writing, as YHWH hath made me wise by His hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.'

19  David gave all to Solomon in the Lord’s handwriting, according to the knowledge given him of the work of the pattern.

28:20  And David said to Solomon his son: 'Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed; for YHWH God, even my God, is with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until all the work for the service of the house of the YHWH be finished.

20  And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong, and play the man, and do: fear not, neither be terrified; for the Lord my God is with thee; he will not forsake thee, and will not fail thee, until thou hast finished all the work of the service of the house of the Lord. And behold the pattern of the temple, even his house, and its treasury, and the upper chambers, and the inner store-rooms, and the place of propitiation, and the plan of the house of the Lord.

20  David also said to his son Solomon: “Act manfully, and be strengthened, and carry it out. You should not be afraid, and you should not be dismayed. For the Lord my God will be with you, and he will not send you away, nor will he abandon you, until you have perfected the entire work of the ministry of the house of the Lord.

28:21  And, behold, there are the courses of the priests and the Levites, for all the service of the house of God; and there shall be with thee in all manner of work every willing man that hath skill, for any manner of service; also the captains and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.'

21  Behold, the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for every ministry of the house of the Lord, are standing before you. And they have been prepared, and so they know, both the leaders and the people, how to carry out all your precepts.”

21  And, behold, the divisions of the priests and of the Levites, I have given them authority over all the service of the house of the LORD; and they are with you, and shall be in charge of all the service; and they will do the work with skill, all the workmanship which is necessary for the service of the house of the LORD. And, behold, I have appointed over them authorities and overseers, so that they may seek and render all manner of service which is necessary.

29:1  And David the king said unto all the congregation: 'Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for YHWH God.

1  And king David spoke to the entire assembly: “My son Solomon, the one God has chosen, is still a tender boy. And yet the work is great, for a habitation is being prepared, not for man, but for God.

1  MOREOVER David the king said to all the assemblies of Israel, This Solomon my son is still a small boy, and yet the LORD has chosen him out of all my sons, because he is wise and has understanding, and this work which is given to him is not small, but it is great; for such a task has never been given to any man; now therefore be strong and of good courage, because the work belongs to the LORD our God.

29:2  Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the brass for the things of brass, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

2  I have prepared according to all my might for the house of my God gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, onyx stones, and costly and variegated stones for setting, and every precious stone, and much Parian marble.

29:3  Moreover also, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, seeing that I have a treasure of mine own of gold and silver, I give it unto the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

3  And in addition to these things that I have offered into the house of my God, I give, from my own belongings, gold and silver for the temple of my God, aside from those things that I have prepared for the holy shrine

3  Moreover, everything which is necessary for the house I have provided of my own sacrifices; I have also provided money for the expenses of the house of my God of my own sacrifices;

29:4  even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, wherewith to overlay the walls of the houses;

4  Three thousand talents of gold of Suphir, and seven thousand talents of fine silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the sanctuary

4  One million talents of gold, of fine gold, and two million talents of silver, to overlay the walls of the house

29:5  of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. Who then offereth willingly to consecrate himself this day unto YHWH?'

5  and gold for wherever there is need of gold, and silver for wherever there is need of silver, for the works to be done by the hands of the artisans. And if anyone freely offers, let him fill his hand this day, and let him offer whatever he wishes to the Lord.”

5  The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by craftsmen, so that the work may be completed in its month, and that no work should be left undone, but be finished in its due time, according to the expenses thereof.

29:6  Then the princes of the fathers' houses, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king's work, offered willingly;

6  And so the leaders of the families, and the nobles of the tribes of Israel, as well as the tribunes and the centurions and the overseers of the king’s possessions, promised

29:7  and they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron a hundred thousand talents.

7  And gave for the service of the house of the LORD five thousand gold talents and fine tin for the pipes two hundred thousand talents and silver twenty thousand talents and of Corinthian brass seventy thousand talents and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

29:8  And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of YHWH, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

8  And whoever found precious stones among their belongings gave them to the treasuries of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

8  Moreover they gave silver and gold, offering them willingly to the treasury of the house of the LORD by the hand of Gershon the treasurer.

29:9  Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with a whole heart they offered willingly to YHWH; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

9  And the people rejoiced because of the willingness, for they offered willingly to the Lord with a full heart: and king David rejoiced greatly.

9  Then all the people of Israel rejoiced in all these gifts because David offered them with perfect heart willingly before the LORD; and David also rejoiced with great joy. Therefore David sang great praises to the LORD.

29:10  Wherefore David blessed YHWH before all the congregation; and David said: 'Blessed be Thou, O YHWH, the God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

10  And king David blessed the Lord before the congregation, saying, Blessed art thou, O Lord God of Israel, our Father, from everlasting and to everlasting.

10  And he blessed the Lord before the entire multitude, and he said: “Blessed are you, O Lord God of Israel, our Father from eternity to eternity.

29:11  Thine, O YHWH, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and Thou art exalted as head above all.

11  Yours, O Lord, is magnificence and power and glory, and also victory; and to you is praise. For all the things that are in heaven and on earth are yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are above all rulers.

11  For thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the beauty and the majesty and the honor; for thou art the ruler over all that is in the heaven and on the earth; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and the wisdom and the might and the knowledge.

29:12  Both riches and honour come of Thee, and Thou rulest over all; and in Thy hand is power and might; and in Thy hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

12  From thee come wealth and glory: thou, O Lord, rulest over all, the Lord of all dominion, and in thy hand is strength and rule; and thou art almighty with thy hand to increase and establish all things.

12  Yours is wealth, and yours is glory. You have dominion over all things. In your hand is virtue and power. In your hand is greatness and authority over all things.

29:13  Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise Thy glorious name.

13  And now, Lord, we give thanks to thee, and praise thy glorious name.

29:14  But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.

14  Who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to promise all these things to you? All is yours. And so the things that we received from your hand, we have given to you.

14  But who am I and what is my people, because all my teachers have taught me that thy way of life has helped us, and thou art our hope, O LORD our God.

29:15  For we are strangers before Thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.

15  For we are like the proverb of vapor and of the potter, and we are sojourners before thee and a small people in the world, but thou didst rule over our fathers of old, and thou didst command them by which way they should walk and live.

29:16  O YHWH our God, all this store that we have prepared to build Thee a house for Thy holy name cometh of Thy hand, and is all Thine own.

16  O Lord our God, as for all this abundance which I have prepared that a house should be built to thy holy name, it is of thy hand, and all is thine.

16  And to thee we offer praise, O LORD our God, that thou mightest save us from all those who harm us, for the nations reproach us, saying, Where is your God, whom you serve?

29:17  I know also, my God, that Thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy Thy people, that are present here, offer willingly unto Thee.

17  And I know, Lord, that thou art he that searches the hearts, and thou lovest righteousness. I have willingly offered all these things in simplicity of heart; and now I have seen with joy thy people here present, willingly offering to thee.

17  I know, my God, that you test hearts, and that you love simplicity. Therefore, in the simplicity of my heart, I also have offered all these things joyfully. And I have seen, with immense gladness, your people, who have been found here, offering their donations to you.

29:18  O YHWH, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever, even the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of Thy people, and direct their heart unto Thee;

18  O Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham and Isaac and Israel, preserve unto eternity this desire of their heart, and let this purpose remain forever, for the worship of you.

18  O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers kept all these things which thou hast promised us for ever, and now turn away our heart from evil, that we may not sin before thee, and prepare our hearts to worship thee.

29:19  and give unto Solomon my son a whole heart, to keep Thy commandments, Thy testimonies, and Thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made, provision.'

19  Also, I give to my son Solomon a perfect heart, so that he may keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your ceremonies, and so that he may accomplish all things, and may build the temple, for which I have prepared the expenses.”

19  And I David answered and said thus: O LORD my God, give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things which I have commanded, and to build the temple for which I have made provision; for thy great name will be hallowed and praised in the world which thou hast created, in the presence of those who worship thee.

29:20  And David said to all the congregation: 'Now bless YHWH your God.' And all the congregation blessed the YHWH, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and prostrated themselves before the LORD, and before the king.

20  Then David instructed the entire assembly: “Bless the Lord our God.” And the entire assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers. And they bowed themselves, and they adored God, and next they reverenced the king.

20  Then David said to all the people of Israel, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the people blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down and worshipped the LORD, and they also blessed King David.

29:21  And they sacrificed sacrifices unto YHWH, and offered burnt-offerings unto the YHWH, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel;

21  And David sacrificed to the Lord, and offered up whole-burnt-offerings to the Lord on the morrow after the first day, a thousand calves, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, and their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

21  And they immolated victims to the Lord. And they offered holocausts on the following day: one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, one thousand lambs, with their libations and with every ritual, very abundantly, for all of Israel.

29:22  and did eat and drink before YHWH on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the YHWH to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.

22  And they ate and drank joyfully that day before the Lord: and they made Solomon the son of David king a second time, and anointed him king before the Lord, and Sadoc to the priesthood.

22  And they did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king, and appointed Zadok to be the priest.

29:23  Then Solomon sat on the throne of YHWH as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel hearkened to him.

23  And Solomon sat upon the throne of his father David, and was highly honoured; and all Israel obeyed him.

29:24  And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.

24  The princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons of king David his father, were subject to him.
