1  Then Saul, still breathing murderous threats against the disciples of YHWH, went to the high priest

1  Now Saul, still breathing threats and beatings against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

1  NOW Saul was still filled with anger and with threats of murder against the disciples of our LORD,

2  and requested from him letters [of authority ]to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he should find any who were of the Way, both men or women, he might bring them, having been bound, to Jerusalem.

3  And as he was going, it came about that he drew near to Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven.

3  And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven

4  And falling on the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"

4  and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

4  And he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? You make it hard for yourself by kicking against the pricks.

5  And he said, "Who are You, Lord?"And YHWH said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

5  Saul answered and said, Who are you my LORD? and our LORD said, I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you persecute

5  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

6  "But rise up and enter into the city, and it will be spoken to you what you must do."

6  And he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”

6  And he, trembling and astonished, said, LORD, what will you have me to do? And the LORD said to him, Arise and go into the city, and there you will be told what you must do.

7  And the men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.

7  And the Lord said to him, “Rise up and go into the city, and there you will be told what you ought to do.” Now the men who were accompanying him were standing stupefied, hearing indeed a voice, but seeing no one.

8  And Saul got up from the ground, and although his eyes were open, he saw no one; and leading him by the hand, they brought [him] into Damascus.

8  Then Saul rose up from the ground. And upon opening his eyes, he saw nothing. So leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.

9  And he was three days not seeing, and neither ate nor drank.

9  And in that place, he was without sight for three days, and he neither ate nor drank.

10  Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and YHWH said to him in a vision, "Ananias."And he said, "Behold I [am here], Lord."

10  And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

11  And YHWH said to him, "Arise and go to Straight Street, and seek out in the house of Judas a man named Saul, of Tarsus; for behold, he is praying.

11  And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth;

12  And he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might see again."

12  (And Paul saw a man named Ananias entering and imposing hands upon him, so that he might receive his sight.)

12  And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

13  But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many wicked things he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem;

13  Then An-a-niÆas said, My LORD, I have heard from many concerning this man, how much misery he has brought to your saints in Jerusalem.

13  Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem

14  and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who are calling on Your name."

14  And behold here also he has authority from the high priests to bind all who call on your name.

15  But YHWH said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel to Me to bear My name before Gentiles and kings, and the sons of Israel.

15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel

15  Then the Lord said to him: “Go, for this one is an instrument chosen by me to convey my name before nations and kings and the sons of Israel.

16  For I will show him all the things that he must suffer for My name's sake."

16  For I will reveal to him how much he must suffer on behalf of my name.”

17  And Ananias departed and entered the house; and laying his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, YHWH has sent me, He who appeared to you in the way which you were coming, so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

17  Then An-a-niÆas went to him at the house, and laying his hands on him, said, Saul, my brother, our LORD Jesus, who appeared to you on the way when you were coming, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

17  And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

18  And immediately[ something] like scales fell from his eyes, and he could see again. And he got up and was baptized.

18  And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight; and he arose and was baptized;

18  And in that hour, there fell from his eyes something like scales; and his eyesight was restored; and he arose and was baptized.

19  And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Now Saul was with the disciples in Damascus three days.

19  and he took food and was strengthened. And he was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus.

20  And immediately in the synagogues he was proclaiming Christ, that He is the Son of God.

20  From that time on, he preached in the Jewish synagogues concerning Jesus, that he is the Son of God.

21  And all those who heard were astounded, and were saying, "Is this not the one who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose, so that he might take them having been bound, to the chief priests?"

21  And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of them that called on this name? and he had come hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests.

22  But Saul all the more was growing strong, and was confounding the Jews who were dwelling in Damascus, proving that this [Jesus] is the Christ.

23  Now when many days were fulfilled, the Jews plotted to kill him.

23  And when many days were completed, the Jews took counsel as one, so that they might put him to death.

23  After he had been there many days, the Jews plotted against him to kill him.

24  But their plot became known to Saul. And they closely watched the [city] gates both day and night, in order that they might kill him.

24  But their treachery became known to Saul. Now they were also watching the gates, day and night, so that they might put him to death.

24  But their conspiracy was made known to Saul, how they watched the gates of the city day and night to kill him.

25  But the disciples, taking him by night, they let him down through the wall, lowering [him ]in a basket.

25  Then the disciples placed him in a basket and let him down over the wall during the night.

26  Now when Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples; but they all were afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

26  And when he was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

26  Then Saul went to Jerusalem, and wanted to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, and could not believe that he was a convert.

27  But Barnabas, taking hold of him, brought him to the apostles, and related to them how he had seen YHWH on the way, and that He had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he spoke boldly in the name of Jesus.

28  So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem,

28  And he was with them going in and going out at Jerusalem,

28  And he was with them, entering and departing Jerusalem, and acting faithfully in the name of the Lord.

29  and speaking boldly in the name of YHWH Jesus, and he was speaking and disputing with the Greek-speaking Jews, but they were attempting to kill him.

29  He also was speaking with the Gentiles and disputing with the Greeks. But they were seeking to kill him.

30  But the brothers, learning about it, brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

30  And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

31  Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified, and going in the fear of YHWH and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, were multiplying.

31  Certainly, the Church had peace throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and it was being built up, while walking in the fear of the Lord, and it was being filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.

32  Now it came to pass, as Peter went through all [parts of the country], that he went down to the saints who were dwelling in Lydda.

32  And it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all parts, he came down also to the saints that dwelt at Lydda.

32  Then it happened that Peter, as he traveled around everywhere, came to the saints who were living at Lydda.

33  And he found there a certain man named Aeneas, who had been confined to a bed for eight years,[ ]who was paralyzed.

33  And there he found a man named ¦ æneas, who had been paralyzed and had lain in bed eight years.

34  And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed."Then he arose immediately.

34  And Simon Peter said to him, ¦ æne-as, Jesus Christ heals you: Arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.

35  And all who were dwelling at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to YHWH.

36  Now in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. This [woman] was full of good works and charitable giving which she was doing.

36  Now there was in the city of Joppa a woman disciple called TabÆi-tha, which means gazelle and interpreted Dorcas; she was rich in good works and in charitable acts.

37  But it came about in those days that she became ill and died; and they washed her, and put [her] in an upper room.

37  And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.

38  Now since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was in Joppa, sent to him, urging him not to delay in coming to them.

38  And the disciples heard that Simon Peter was in the city of LydÆda, which is beside Joppa; they sent to him two men, desiring him to come to them without delay.

39  And arising, Peter went with them. When he arrived, they took him into the upper room, and all the widows stood beside him weeping, showing [him ]tunics and cloaks which Dorcas was making, [while ]she was with them.

39  Then Peter, rising up, went with them. And when he had arrived, they led him to an upper room. And all the widows were standing around him, weeping and showing him the tunics and garments that Dorcas had made for them.

39  Then Simon Peter arose and went with them. And when he had arrived, they took him to the upper room where all the widows were gathered around her weeping and they showed him shirts and cloaks which TabÆitha had given them when she was alive.

40  But Peter, having put them all outside, knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise."And she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up.

40  And when they had all been sent outside, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the body, he said: “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes and, upon seeing Peter, sat up again.

40  But Simon Peter put all the people out and knelt down and prayed; then he turned to the body and said, TabÆi-tha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Simon Peter, she sat up.

41  And giving to her his hand, he raised her up; and when he called the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

42  And it became known throughout all of Joppa, and many believed on YHWH.

42  And this was known throughout the city and many believed in our LORD.

43  And he stayed for some time in Joppa with a tanner [named ]Simon.

43  And it came to pass, that he abode many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

43  Peter remained in Joppa many days, staying at the house of Simon Bur-saÆya, the tanner.
